I am 6 days into crate training. I have never house broke a dog before. How often would ya'll say a 6 week old puppy should have to be let out? We only had 2 accidents this weekend. She hasn't gone in her crate yet. What I wondering is when she is out of her crate for a while. How long before I take her back out?

Or any other crate training advice I can get. I Read the puppy post.

Hey, congratulations on your new family member. I was told by a great trainer that if you take the puppy's age in months plus 2 - this is longest time in hours that a puppy can maximally hold their bladders. So your 6wk old pup can go about 3-4 hours between voidings best senario. If you will take them out immediately after meals, water, and following naps, you should take care of about 98% of voiding- defecating in the house- also remember you will have to get up with them at night to take them out - every 3-4 hours or comensurate with their age. Yeah I have been getting up about twice a night for the first week and now last night was the first time she did not wake me up to go. But when she heard that alarm clock she was ready to go out.

Sounds like you're doing everything correct. After she gets relief, eats, plays for a little while go ahead and put her back up. Let her nap for a while then repeat process. Crate trained two dogs and the spent about half or a little more of their time in the crate for the first few months until there were no more accidents in the house. Now we let them out in the morning, put them up for the day, let them out when we get home and then again before bed, they sleep out, and repeat the process. Don't feel bad about leaving them in the crate a good portion of the time when they're a pup. They need their rest and you need a break from watching their every move.

Told my wife his getting up and down is preparind me for when the baby gets here. Only bad part is that the dog better be able to stay up all night owell before then or I might have to shoot it.

What he said. And it won't take long before he'll be sleeping all through the night and be able to 'hold it' until he gets outside.
