i heard u could get a program for ur computer and call into a mic and it would grade ur calling. ever heard of that

I've used a computer mic before, but it greatly distorted the actually sound of the call. The best way I've found of recording is using a good videocamera, ie dvd or vhs-c. I've never heard of the program though.

I've got one of those digital recorders that seems to work pretty well, the trick is don't call too close to the mike or it clips a bit.... but it works really well outside or in a room where the sound isn't reflected much....

But, I've never heard of a program to grade your calling....

He is talking about the Babe Winkman CD for the puter. It don't work to good. RNT cd's are pretty good. My neighbor has a pond with tamed mallards that is behind my fence and at dark they cut up and that has helped me the most. It drives my dogs insane though.

Find a place holding a large concentration of ducks and just sit and listen, listen and listen some more. Trying to imatate a calller just makes you sound like a caller, try to duplicate sounds the ducks make.

One other thing I have found to be very helpful, and make sure to do this out of earshot of your buddies, you need to lear the entire range of your call, good bad or otherwise. If you do not know what your call can do you will never know what your call will do. You will make some awful sounds but you should learn eavery note your call can make and what it takes to make the good ones and the bad ones, thats the only way to know how NOT to blow that call.

I will probably open a can of worms, but here goes. Wandy if you are just learning, try and learn on a single reed call. They are a little harder to blow but offer a few benefits that a double reed can't. 1) They are less prone to stick, 2) You can make one call sound like different ducks by varying the pitch. (Double reeds sound like the same duck everytime you blow them). I personally prefer an "Echo" timber call but there are alot of good calls out there.
