What to do with your carcasses?

Postby Wingman » Mon Nov 27, 2006 2:25 pm

After cleaning your birds, dispose of them in some way other than dumping them over the river bridge on a major highway, on the side of the road or in a drainage ditch.

Dig a hole on your property and dump them in it. That is the safest and most ethical way to properly dispose of them.

The non-hunting crowd sees breasted carcasses and deer heads/capes on the side of the road and they view hunters as slobs.

Either did a hole or rde around town until you see a dumpster being emptied. once it is emptied throw the carcass in the dumpster giving it a whole week to start smelling. :D :D :D

Monroe county has placed trash dumpsters around the county for carcasses to be placed. I noticed one Friday afternoon near my camp with a sign posted stating that is what it was for.

We take them to our possum-feeding station. In other words, put the remains in the woods. Everything but a few feathers is gone in a day or two.

I agree with the comment about dumping them by the side of the road. Someone left a deer carcass on ours the other day. I could tell it wasn't a roadkill, since car crash victims don't come prepacked in a large garbage bag.

We have a "coyote" pit behind the camp. Bones are clean in a couple of days at most. The only visible carcasses around our lease come from the poachers on the south side who only get what miniscule amount of meat they want (usually only backstraps) and leave the carcass by the gravel road they shot it from, if they drag their booty out of the truck to get it at all - ba@$*#ds!!!!!!!!!

Who cares what the public think? If you throw the not wanted into a ditch, or creek or canal, or right out on dry ground if you want to feed your competitors, those nutriendts get absorbed into the system by all the other smaller than us predators. It's food, just like it is to us. It makes the whole system churn. To put that stuff into a "dump" is just plain crazy. Throw it in a ditch, just dont do it where all the most offeneded have to look at it when they drive by. That stuff makes the world go around. Take what you want, but leave the rest for those who will use it. Just dont throw your scraps close to any red ant piles, as they will cullit to the bone and they dont need any damn help at this time.

#1 It's illegal to throw it somewhere without permission
#2 Hunters are outnumbered by non-hunters and anything we can do to build our image is better for us.

Image is more important than environmental integrity?
With most sportsmen these days, I cant think of a better way for them to give back to the environment.

Here in Monroe county the county supervisor are putting the old dumpsters too use. They are putting dumpsters up in diffrent parts of the county to combat this problem of the roadside dumping. I know I have heard it brought up in mixed company that ppl are tired of seeing the deer heads and guts on the side of the roads. Just another negative thing for the hunters to have to deal with! Maybe some of you fellas can get your supervisors to do this also. Just tell them to make sure it not to close to anyone's house.......... Whew weeeeee the smell would gag a maggot!!!!!!!

It's just lazy hunters who wont bother to pull off the road and dump their guts. That stuff keeps the environment alive, you say what you want about it. It's just hunters wont bother to drive off the road away, and dump it. Just more hunter apathy, thats all. And that damn Apathy is what is hurting us, in the public eye, not deer guts. You are WAY back in the woods when you cull him, but you dump his guts on a public road where all can see it? Just because it is easy? Just pull off and dump it man, and dont ever do it in the same place twice. It will help the entire environment. "Give back" the right way. It's just a way to turbo charge what you have. Can you get that out of a bag? Cut the good meat and dump the rest for all to use. Hey, Man, toss your stuff where nobody will see it. Ya Dig?

I'll go you one better. We park at a public boat launch and unload ATV's. Between the time we washed our boots on Saturday and again on Sunday. Someone managed to skin a dog and dump it in the water at the end of the ramp. . Yep, you heard right. 40lb dog skinned and the carcass dumped whole. I don't know how demented a person has to be to skin a dog and I'd rather not find out.
