What have yall had good experience with. What is the most inexpensive, effective way to make a jerk cord? Anyone have any tricks they want to share? Thanks for the advise.

Well I bought one at Bass Pro for $20. I also made one out of a piece of square tubing approximately 3ft long, 1 bungee cord, 1 eye bolt, and 1 roll of decoy string. Both work wonders. The one from BPS has some gang clips already there for decoy attachment but if ya make one you can buy them in the fishing section at Wally World or any tackle shop and tie them on the string

all we do is take one decoy and tie two strings to it, one in the front and one in the back.
Tie the one in the back to a stick or something in the ground and carry the other end to the blind with you.
It works pretty good.

I used an old piece of iron for the anchor at the end and tied salt water swivels to decoy line about two or three feet apart, then wrapped the whole deal up around an extension cord holder. it's a pretty good setup, but you need more line than you'd think. also, and it may seem like common sense, but make sure you set the anchor right or you'll end up w/ a bunch of decoys piled up in front of your blind

The easiest, most effective and inexpensive jerk string. Take one of your decoys (magnum size works the best), attach a cord long enough to reach to the blind and find a sturdy Y shaped stick.

Your arm may get a little cold on the next step. Stick the two ends of the Y under the water and into the mud as deep as you can get it. (This should be done where you want the duck to dive.) Run your string thur the Y and begin pulling.

I have found this to be the best way to move the water and it appears to be a feeding duck. The best part is that you don't have to buy anything.

thanks for the replies. I think I'll try to make a few and see what works best for me. I've always just tied a string to a decoy and used that. Worked ok but didn't get that much action and always had the dang thing end up in front of the blind after awhile.

jerk cord is absolutely one of the best methods to coax call/decoy shy birds into your spread. It, of course, is going to work best when there is little wind, but I have found it quite useful even in windy days. I bought one from Macks PW a few years ago and it has worked great.

metal conduit pole (painted), get a couple different lengths for varying water depth. stab it in the mud or find a good tree or limb to tie to. attach a bungee strap, then trot-line with a few eyelets or swivels all the way back to the blind/boat---attach decoys, 2 or 3, with snap swivels and short length of trot-line tied to each decoy. this gives plenty of ripples, also when released it lets the ducks swim back in position in a straight line, looks like real ducks playing follow-the-leader

That $20 job from bass pro is a great investment...

Get two...

Forget about the anchor balls and other weighted rigs... You'll have to walk out and reset it after every third flight of ducks - Use a fixed pole jerk cord system...

The jerk spreader w/ 12 decoys is to much we cut it back and put three decoys on two diff jerks and had great results..

Yeah I cant see what they were thinking wqith the spreader deal, the 3 duck works great for me and then I made one that will hold 2 decoys

Got this tip from Bonehead. the best jerk string elastic is a replacement peep sight cord for your bow. Works like a charm, let's you move the decoys several feet without putting too much pressure on the stake in the ground...

I beg to differ.
I use the spreaders, i untied them and spread them apart so they weren't so bunched up, and it works GREAT in a timber hole.
Just have a few other decoys spread thru the hole and load the guns boys, they are coming.
