My lab had puppies on Oct 29th. I'm keeping the only male in the bunch, GOOD LOOKING DOG!!! My question is, how old before I begin to put him in field trials?? Hopefully having this dog and handling this dog from day one it should be an EXTREMELY loyal dog and easy to train HOPEFULLY

Ya'll give me some feedback on age and field testing, It will be my first dog to try and get titled.

I don't have specific expertise in FT or hunt tests, but I do believe age isn't the indicator for the point you begin these trials. Rather, the development of the dog and its ability to compete is important. Remember, dogs are like people...they mature and learn at different rates/ages.

I don't like when training is based on age, such as Wolters did in some of his books. Again, each dog is unique and you often set the dog and you up for failure if you follow that your dog should be doing "x" at "x-weeks old."

Just my opinion.

Good Huntin'

most on here run the hunt test scene. AKC requires the dog to be at least 6 months before running junior. There is no age limit on HRC. Your best bet is to learn what is required for the level you plan on running and have the dog doing it. Go to a test, or preferably a training day, before running in a test. You will learn a lot more by seeing and then asking. As far as the question about age, with HRC if you got the money you got a spot. I think the fact that AKC sets a minimum of 6 months should give you a good starting point
