I'm looking to upgrade this year but I'm not sure what to buy. I'm leaning toward the traditional wooden Featherlight. But you know, wally world has that new alluminum model with the black plastic blade and handle. But I'm not much into synthetic.

Ha!! Just messing around, I'm ready to go home for the weekend.

The butt of a Mossberg Shotgun work well, they are a little pricey as far as paddles go. Also make sure it is unloaded or you could wind up with an inverted mohawk or worse.

I like them indian brand ones that are made of laminate like a cutting board. They are not as prone to crack on a real hard head twirlie user like them cheapies are.

Try a "Caviness" synthetic ---it is lightweight, floats, almost indestructible, and comes in OD green color. Have not had a chance to break ice with mine yet, but hopefully will get the chance this season --the ice breaking is really the ultimate test for a paddle.

For years I always bought the cheap wooden ones and put a coat of fiberglass on them. That made them last 3-4 years, breaking ice and all.

I finally broke down and bought one of those Wallyworld aluminum and camo-taped the shiney shaft. Then I cut slits in the paddle end to help retrieve decoys.

Have you seen that camo duct tape? Now that's some handy stuff!

The wooden ones break too easily when a water moccasin lands in your boat and you have to defend yourself with it!

I like the rubber one my dad used to have before I lost it....

I wonder where he got that?

I used to use a Kayak paddle....long and tough.

I have some wooden ones but the short, plastic Slater's paddles that Wal-Mart sells last a long time.

WNGROG, I think I know you. What are you doin' postin' here on this site. I thought you gave up huntin' to go ridin' in Jeepers jamboree.

Welcome to the site. It may work out that MS season opens again on the Thanksgiving Friday. If so, are you up to camping out again?.

The best paddle out there is the one that I'll never have to use. Keep that marsh motor running so we don't have to have this debate .
