Help with a boat selection

Postby Redlegs » Sat Aug 11, 2001 3:13 pm

I am going to be hunting in an old rice field right across the river from Vicksburg in a newly formed club. We have an 870 acre old rice field that DU came in and created 8 "Potholes" and about 35 small little ponds to hold the ducks. We have a boat road that runs from all the holes and we have a big canal that runs around the property and down the middle. Adjacent to that we have a cypress lake. I need a boat for 3 people and 1 small Lab. Do you think that I need a flat bottom boat or V-hull? 12 feet or 14 feet? 5.5 horsepower Go-Devil or trolling motor? The boat roads and canals are going to be anywhere from 3-8 feet deep. What are some of ya'll's opinions? I really appreciate it guys!

14 foot flat bottom, If the shallowest is 3 feet I'd go with a small HP outboard.

Well I say 3 feet, but that is a guess. I know that there is going some spots that may be shallower. There will be lots of brush and etc.
