Was also there and second that they suck! Their pitchers are just awful. Even the 7 and 8 hole hitters were getting good rips on the ball. Hardly anyone was there either, might have broken 500 people total. Guess they'll pack the house tonight and tomorrow.

I sense a bit of jealousy!

First off, if you are going to a minor league baseball game to see them win every game, then you are at the wrong ballpark. If their pitcher or pitchers were doing well, they would NOT be in class AA Mississippi Braves. They would either be at class AAA or, with the way the Atlanta Braves pitching staff is doing right now, over in Atlanta. So, don't go to a AA game because you want to see them win, this is the farm leagues; the bus league. This is where they are groomed and shown the ropes, not throwing no hitters. Like I said, if they are that good, they will not stay around long. Case in point: last year that Atlanta Braves called up nine players off of the Mississippi Braves AA team. With the exception of three or four pitchers, the rest were position players. That is HALF of the starting lineup that the Greenville Braves had been grooming over the past two-to-three years. So, the Mississippi Braves are essentially starting over with rookie and class A baseball players. PATIENCE PEOPLE

As for your buddy that was the best college player you have had the pleasure to play with, well if he is good enough, then he will make it. Right now Chipper is not in any way, shape or form in jeopardy of loosing his job. It just isn't going to happen ( Current Average .331, RBI's 60, HR 15; Carreer Average .305, RBI's 1171, HR 346). Chipper may have gone 1 for 8 here in Mississippi, but that was his first swings in two weeks. His last game was July 28 against the Mets where he went 1 for 2. You also say that if your "hometown" boy were here, ticket sales would increase? I doubt it. Not doubting you or some of his local friends/fans would come to see him play, but not everyone knows him and just because he is a local does not necessarily mean that tickets sales will increase. Case in point: Michael Rosemond is from Madison, played college baseball at the University of Louisiana Monroe and him being here does no more for the overall ticket sales than if I were to go over and play.

My main point is that this is minor league baseball. Do not go over and watch a game with any expectations other than to enjoy the game; the game of baseball. As Walt Wittman put it, "I see great things in baseball. It's our game. The American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us."

Major League teams don't care whether their minor league team wins or loses. their purpose is to develop players...so they will leave pitchers in longer than they should to see how they will react, let a guy in an 0-30 slump stay in the line-up, etc. If the Mississippi Braves lose every game, but develop 3-4 players in to Major Leaguers......success!
