Arkansas' McFadden doubtful for season opener because of toe injury sustained in fight

Jul 29, 2:07 PM (ET)

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden, a first-team All-SEC selection, underwent surgery on his toe Saturday morning following an overnight bar fight and is doubtful for the Razorbacks' season opener against Southern California.

McFadden got into a fight at 4:20 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Palace the Club, a Little Rock private club, according to a police report. The fight was still going on, and a crowd was watching, when officers arrived.

McFadden told police he didn't know the person with whom he was fighting, the report said. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Razorbacks said McFadden dislocated a joint in his left big toe and had surgery in Little Rock to repair the capsule surrounding the joint. A small pin was also inserted into the joint to stabilize it.

Arkansas trainer Dean Weber said McFadden will not practice for several weeks and is unlikely to play against USC on Sept. 2.

McFadden rushed for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, becoming the seventh freshman in Southeastern Conference history to run for 1,000 yards.

Good grief. I didn't think high character Arkansas players got into bar fights or even went to bars. Must have been a mistake. Clearly, he must have gotten lost on the way to the Ozark Mountain banjo jubilee bingo parlor, and one thing led to another, and ...............

Its ok if theres one position we're loaded at its Rb, not sweating it one bit.
Meet the new boss same as the old boss, Felix Jones.

BTW, both were behind a boy named Michael Smith from Florida until he was hurt in Fall practice, he's back and picking it up where he left off.

Here is the scoop from ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2533575

McFadden out at Bar in Little Rock with his stepbrother. McFadden is underage. McFadden gets involved in fight outside of bar at approx 4:20 am. Toe/joint on his left foot gets crushed and requires surgery and pin to repair. Out for several weeks at least. Stepbrother's car gets stolen during the fight. Per two differing reports, injury occurred when McFadden kicked someone on the ground, or his foot was run over by a car.

He broke his toe either having it run over or kicking the asphalt. I love it. Doesn't sound near as good as, "I broke it while in a fight"
