We tore up the reds, flounder and specs today, south of the islands. Hope you made it down south. Going back tomorrow afternoon, depending on the tide. Got 3 dozen crabs to boil tonight. Life is good. Wonder what the people in Jackson are doing........ [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

i will be down your way next week. i'm hopeing that Uncle Al can turn me on too some good fishing... can't wait on the crabs and shrimp....

my wife read an article about crabbing with a string and chicken necks.. she is determined to try it.... any tips or suggestions?????

OK, toot that horn! yada, yada, yada.

We decided to leave the boats at home and go down to Fourchon and fish the beach. COnditions were good at daylight staurday but we couldn't trick any. It was calm and a lot of boats were at the beach. They weren't catching either. Wind was light and norteasterly and tide was comin up. The water was full of 1'-2" glass minows, but no shrimp or anything bigger.

Later in the am, the tide started to go out and the wind picked up. The water muddied up nearshore. We ended up with 13 specks.

Grand Isle was full of people and we thought about staying but didn't have a place. My guess is the wind probably laid Saturday evening. The usual.

Shoot, get you a couple of $14 dollar crab traps, a $5 yearly liscence, and all yer old fish heads, and you can eat crabs every night until you are sick of 'em. The best crab traps in the known world are made by the handicapped kids at Singing River Industries in Pascagoula, MS.

i got a couple of grab pots{traps} whatever from a few years ago that we used in the Big Biloxi when the alkaline was so high... we done well at the cabin... things not so handy this year... any suggestions about where she might could do well off piers or what-ever with-out a boat? in the Biloxi or Gulfport region...
next Sat. is her B-day and i thought i would suprise her with a trip with a big meal at a Casino, maybe an eve at Daffy's and a crag catchin trip..... yea yea, not all women have a trip of a lifetime like this......haha..... any help is appreciated.....

In the Biloxi/Gulfport area, you will have to finght off hordes of Vietnamese crabbers. They have pots everywhere. I will check on some spots and e-mail you.

'JB'.....don't forget, it helps to have a dip net with a long handle, too! Crabbin' w/ string, chicken necks, and a 'crab net' is some of the most fun I've ever had. 'Works best in shallow water like canals. When you get one on the line, lay the net down FLAT on the bottom and drag the crab (gently) over the net, then just pick the net straight-up and, viola'....CRAB DINNER! 'Course, if you're crabbin' from a pier or wall, you might do better with a 'crab basket'. They are not as cost-efficient as a ball of cotton line, a net and 2 pounds of old, 'greezy', chicken parts, but more effective in certain applications. Be sure and tie your 'parts' to the inside bottom of the basket.

Then lower the basket into the water with a long cotton line. When the basket hits the bottom, it colapses and the critters just walk across it to get to the bait. Then you just pull the whole thing up to see if you got anything. GREAT FUN!! [img]images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img]
