I met Scott Baker yesterday, y'all, and I'll have to say, he is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. I'm glad that our MDWFP has officers like that; makes me proud to be a hunter in this state. He seems to be a good man. Scott, recon we can get Kerr trained to act nice every once in a while?

You're a great example, and we appreciate you for it.

I agree! Scott is a great part of MDWFP. I have several other friends who work with MDWFP who are just like Scott. My hat goes off to them for all the work they do. Many of you may not realize all they do. I know several of them actually go to the schools and make presentations to the children, many of which have never been "outdoors."
To all the MDWFP biologists, conservation officers, and administrators, my hats off to you! Keep up the good work!

I totally agree with yall on this...
SB is a good guy and damn committed to his work...Like most of us on this line(I hope), SB truly understands what an asset we have in the Mississippi Outdoors and how much better it could be with proper management, so let me raise the stakes on this line...
For MDWFP to fulfill its potential, they need more money- a lot more money...Hunting and fishing receive not a dime of state funds....They are 100% funded through license sales and federal excise taxes on hutnign and fishing equipment, ammo, etc...In other words, as hunters/anglers we pay 100% of the bill...
So here is the question: As opposed to $34 for the state license and $10 for the state duck stamp which allows us to hunt and fish everything except saltwater fishing, how much more are you willing to pay? Personally I think the all-everything license ought to cost $100 and the lowest cost season license ought to be $25...
What would the MDWFP do with the extra money?
1- Tagging system for all game...
2- Aquire additional public land and better
management of existing WMAs especially in
terms of dove fields, stocking quail,
etc...
3- More game wardens/more biologists/more
private lands involvement like a
statewide fish stocking program...
4- Agressive efforts to recruit young
hunters...
5- Plenty of other stuff...
Your thoughts?

I think $100.00 would be a bargain, IF the money were used in a responsible manner. The price of the license is inconsequential when you look at the overall costs of trucks, land acquistion, guns, dog food, taxidermy...that's just the tip of the list! My problem with any kind of tax increase is a deep concern that the money would be squandered. Goodness knows, governmental entities are well-known for their propensity to irresponsibly waste money that they didn't have to earn.

Hambone, did you get a new dictionary or sumthin'? Hehe, I agree, if the money were spent for the right reasons, I wouldn't mind paying it.
