Wells withdraws from LSU job

Alabama baseball coach Jim Wells said Friday he was removing his name from consideration for the LSU job and will remain with the Crimson Tide.
"We are staying here," Wells told The Tuscaloosa News in an interview published on its Web site. "That has been my main interest all along."
Wells, 51, was considered a leading candidate for the LSU vacancy after Ray "Smoke" Laval resigned following the Southeastern Conference tournament. Wells is a good friend of LSU athletic director Skip Bertman, the Bengal Tigers' longtime baseball coach.
Wells became Alabama's winningest coach this year during a 44-20 season that included a share of the Southeastern Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Super Regionals. Wells has a career record of 522-246 at Alabama, including three trips to the College World Series.
