Heart worms

Postby Johnny Hall » Thu Jun 08, 2006 2:02 pm

Have, well had, three labs all getting, Interceptor, for heartworms every 7th of the month whether they need it or not for life of the two males and over three years with the female. Didnt notice any symptoms and had just taken them to vet for a check up and booster shots in April. Sold one of them last week and the guy calls me a couple of days later and the dog has heart worms. So, I had my son take the other two back to the vet and turns out one of them had come up with heartworms. Anybody else had this happen while using Interceptor?

i've heard of people using heartworm meds religiously on the set date every month and the animal still getting heartworms.

if it was a human, lawyers would already have a class action lawsuit out against these companies. until the companies are worth enough money for some lawyer to sue for, you will never hear anything about it.

but i really do not believe there is any 100% preventative on the market.

I don't know about the Intercepter but, I think heartguard will help with the cost if not pay the entire cost on the treatments. You might want check and see.

I would have my dogs retested and possibly at another vet. Had a friend who bought a dog and took it to the vet where it tested positive. Turns out the dog's owner had been at the same vet 4 mos earlier and the dog been treated for heartworms and pronounced heartworm free. So what happened there?

Well that is kinda what happened to me. Had dogs tested in April and no show. Sold one of them in May and he carried the dog to his vet which came of positive for worms. Carried my other two back and one of them had worms the other didn't. I just dont understand. Turns out another lesson in saving receipts, wife couldn't locate receipts where we had been buying this stuff all along and now Interceptor won't pay the bill. And also found out my vet even though she is good, doesn't keep books very well either. I haven't heard anymore from the sold dog but the ones at the house are gonna be fine. It was caught in the early stages

I did ... I use to be the K-9 officer and my K-9 Bruno came down with them -- it put him out of commission for 6 months -- it was bad because they were in a more advanced stage-- the vet wasn't testing for heartworms because he was on interceptor-- he went untested for over a year without my knowledge-- he was 8 yrs old and it caused him to lose his drive so he was retired--he is fine now but interceprtor found an excuse not to pay too
