Dissention in Hogville

The following is all over the Hog related sports message boards. Apparently, the new Hog OC, Malzahn, who the Hog fans are so excited about, attempted to resign. Here is a post from a Hog fan that summarizes the events that allegedly unfolded.

Re: Attn: Bluff City and Searcy - can you shed any light on a rumor of a resignation

Ok gang...
I've checked with a couple of sources. They will remain anonymous as usual..
a. It is not a rumor.
b. Gus did offer his resignation to Nutt, with Broyles present, several weeks ago. Reasons were...
* interference from Markuson on running the offense, specifically what blocking schemes to run.
* lack of cooperation from Herring during drills. When Gus asked for no blitz's, Herring would blitz.
* failure of Nutt to give Gus full responsibility of the offense, including who to offer scholarships to.
* failure of Nutt to give him full control of the offense.
c. Appx 5 mins after this resignation offer, Lindsey was also in Nutt's office with Broyles.
* unsubstantiated part of the rumor was that a 2nd BOT member was also there.
d. Appx 10 mins after Gus offered his resignation, there was a full football staff meeting called by Broyles and Lindsey.
* Broyles and Lindsey ran the meeting, with Nutt yes-sirring.
* They were told that Guz Malzahn would have full cooperation, full control of the offense, and full responsibility for who to offer offensively.
* If anyone felt uncomfrotable or disagreed with this, they could hit the highway that very minute.
* That any further lack of cooperation would mean immediate termination.
I will still defer to Bluff City and Searcy.. but that is the info as concrete as I can get it.

If even half of this is true, it is a sign of dissention among the Hog staff that will only get worse under the pressure of actual games and the need to win. Such staff dissention can be very detrimental to a program and a football season ---- UM experienced such last fall.
Most Hog fans that I know, including many of my in-laws, have VERY HIGH expectations this coming season due primarily to Malzahn's new offense and freshman QB Mitch Mustain. Under the circumstances, I think these expectations are unrealistic and will result in putting too much pressure on Mustain. I cannot recall a true freshman QB in the SEC leading a team to a good season. I am not saying that it is not possible that Mustain could be the first; but I do think that history suggests that such is highly unlikely. And implementing and successfully running a brand new offense is going to take some time. There may be some bumps along the way, as these rumors suggest with the internal staff conflict.
Had the Hogs not made any dramatic offensive staff changes in the offseason, then I think they would have a chance to pick up where they left off from last year and likely finish with a winning season and a bowl bid this season. Returning QB Casey Dick is a serviceable QB who is capable of guiding a primarily run oriented offense to a successful season. Improvement on defense, and some talented returning RBs would support that conclusion. But, the offensive change may set the Hogs back a bit as far as any improvements in the win/loss column. The internal staff conflict will cost some games down the road. And relying on a true frosh QB to save the day, IMO, is delusional ---new offense or not.
Any major improvement by the Hogs due to the new offense and Mustain is at least a year away IMO.
