STARKVILLE — Mississippi State has received its biggest transfer yet.

Michael Brown, a former offensive tackle at Florida, said this morning he has transferred to MSU.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder had left the Gators in December to care for his sick mother in Atlanta. Now that his mother is feeling better, Brown chose to play somewhere within driving distance of her.

He called up MSU receivers coach Guy Holliday, who had recruited him out of in high school, and eventually received a scholarship offer.

"I talked to Coach (Sylvester) Croom and he seemed like my type of coach — fair but hard," Brown said Brown. "It was the best decision for me and my family, since I also wanted to play in the SEC, to be closer to home."

He has sent in his paperwork, gotten into school and plans to be on campus by the summer.

Brown, who will sit out one year per NCAA Division-I transfer rules and have two year of eligibility, was highly recruited out of Westlake (Ga.) High in 2004. He was ranked the 22nd best defensive tackle in the country by to the recruiting service Scout.com and the 15th best by to Scout.com.

He said he will play offensive tackle for the Dogs.

Brown is MSU's third transfer in the last month. Former Tulane running back Christian Ducre and former Memphis defensive lineman Cortez McCraney are the others.
