My dad had a 4" tall wood duck chick walk into his office in downtown Natchez this morning. No joke. He needs to know what it will eat. He wants to try to raise it but he does not know what to feed it right now. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction of someone who can help I would appreciate it.

If you call the CO and they can't get it to a wildlife rehabilitator, try feeding it chick starter feed and keep it under a light bulb at night.
Since it is a game animal, you are not supposed to keep it, but I wouldn't turn the little fella back out onto the street if it were me

Go up to Gamberi's and get some feed for baby chickens ( I think they call it mash)..remember you have to keep that chick warm at night or it will die..use a light bulb or hot water bottle.

Wood duck chicks are the hardest to raise out of all the ducks. You really need to call the local wildlife rehabilitator, or the local vet. If you do decide to keep it I wish you luck.

I bet he would be good stuffed with cream cheese and jalapino, stuck on a skewer over red hot coals.

i raised 8 mallard babys last year. go to a co-op or something and get mashed up chicken food. after a few weeks or a month get some mashed up corn and mix it in with the chicken food. i would try the chicked food for a while and if it doesn't take to it i would ask a vet or something. good luck with the woodie.

First don't keep the chick in a box or in something small b/c the chick will jump it's self to death thinking it is in the nest. the little chicks are very hard to keep alive try not to hold it very much. Good luck that is very cool.
