I got this off of another fourm and i could not beliueve it u guys that hunt timber like me need to read this

Mr. Bones and I have been talking and we have agreed that timber hunting is so easy, it is really a way for 2nd class hunters to shoot birds. I tried it a couple of years ago and it was so easy I've never tried to go back to it. calling was easier, decoying the birds was a joke, and no need to hide, you just look like a tree. Good hunters hunt in areas that will take some skill to acually fool birds. That is where the true enjoyment of hunting is, not looking like a tree and killing stupid ducks

Haha! I must not be a good hunter, cause I enjoy the heck out of an easy hunt. I'm no timber pro, but standing behind a tree sure beatsh lying in the gumbo with the rain falling up your nose.

I dont really care what people think about timber hunting. I like the up close and in your face shooting. This is what I think about the post. I like to see the ducks work and fall into the timber.

except for shootin off the deck at the Quack-Shack, give me the flooded timber any day... i like the big waters but have a hard time gettin em to decoy to my spread, unless i turn the batteries on....haha.... i love to look up thru the limbs.....

I started reading that thread when it first started, but haven't followed it in a few days.

I'm pretty sure that it started with good natured ribbing from a few members of a northern state. There are a lot of folks on that board who will post anything just to get others riled up so that they will have something to post about. It seems they are in a competition to see who can get the most posts - even if it is about nothing important.

I would steer clear of debates like that. There is no way to win.

WOW Timber is the best. We dont have much here in N C but I sure wish we did. Forget that post, it cant be serious.

if you have never caught a few thousand mallards and pins coming in to 3-5 feet flooded timber ....

then sorry guys....you have never had a real duck hunt.....

Have big blind...sloughs...etc...

but give me 27 digrees, bright sun, wind out of the north,...ice on the dog,,,and me...

watch out coming in from the left....

(happened north of mahanna the weekend of new years....)//

had to put boat in ...push pole .5 miles down flooded road in timber at night...
crank up another 2 miles...

then pull boat to an ole hog woller....
2-3 foot water everywhere... 2-dozen k-h decoys...load up...

2 hunters- sat..8 am...limit by 9:30
banded mallard

knew where to go sunday...
7:30..limit.8:15...another banded mallard..
hunting partner was pissed...
I got both banded ducks in two days

monday...you guessed it ...wonderful....
call a few friends to join our hunt,but guess what

tuesday...froze up..water droped///had to drag the darn boat for a while....did not shoot a gun...and did not see a duck....

dog was upset...and ole friends were really pissed off...drove 100 miles after new years party to come to our hunt...

I have found that most people prefer to do things the way they were taught. I seems to me this unfortunate soul learned to hunt in the fields. I cut my teeth in the timber. I always wondered what it was like to hunt from a buried pit in an Arkansas rice field.

Years later I got my chance and I was SERIOUSLY disappointed. The birds were skiddish of the blind, they seemed to know how far JUST out of range was. I am a big guy, so I don't like the shooting stance from a pit blind.

As with most things about duck hunting...opinions vary! I just love to watch ducks work in the woods. It's also fun to be able to see all the ducks as you can in a field, but that just can't hold a candle to having them fold up in a timber hole after having them on a string with the call! If someone was really in it just for the shooting challenge, then limit yourself to teal and bluebills! Them thangs can make a fool of anybody on any given day!
