It seems, according to the Clarion-Ledger, Alabama Athletic Supporter Logan Young was found murdered in his Memphis home on monday.

How sad! It appears to be a gruesome scene according to early reports.

Let's hope this isn't over college sports.

Kinda bad when you hope it was a random killing and not something more. If it is something more . . . this could get real ugly.

YOUNG INFORMATION FROM AP STORY

The 65-year-old Young was convicted under federal law of money laundering and racketeering conspiracy in the case involving the peddling of defensive lineman Albert Means.

Young was sentenced last June to six months in prison and six months home confinement then two years supervised release. But he had been allowed to remain free pending his appeal. Final briefs in Young's appeal were to be filed by July 14, according to court records.

Former high school coach Lynn Lang, who avoided jail time after pleading guilty to taking part in a racketeering conspiracy, testified against Young, saying the booster paid $150,000 to get Means to sign with Alabama in 2000.

The NCAA has said it believed Means was unaware his football talents were being brokered. The player later transferred to Memphis, where he finished his college career.

Lang testified at Young's trial that other universities, including Georgia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Memphis, Mississippi, Michigan State and Tennessee, offered him money or jobs to get Means.

No charges were filed against anyone with those schools. Three former coaches, Rip Scherer of Memphis, Jim Donnan of Georgia and Alabama assistant Ivy Williams, testified Lang was lying.

Means' recruitment became part of an NCAA investigation that led to sanctions against Alabama in 2002, costing the Crimson Tide scholarships and bowl appearances.

I've been reading a lot of the espn reports on all this and it really explains so much about $Alabama$ football tradition. Maybe you guys have read this stuff from the trial, etc, but it's new to me.

No wonder Bear Bryant was such a "legendary" coach! The Young family was some of his closest friends/supporters and a fine family they were. They vacationed together, drank together, and spent holidays together. That family has given millions to "the program" over the years. Court testimony reveals Logan II got a little loose with the info/insider scoop when he drank(and that was quite frequently). He told often of the process the Bear had worked out with his dad (Logan I) when it came to "recruiting". This, of course, was the beginning of trouble for "the Storied Program" as Fulmer was able to get Kramer to FINALLY do something.

The $Alabama$ football machine had a leg up on the lowly MS schools, I should not feel too bad about the lopsided series...

No wonder Bryant became such a drunk late in life, it must have weighed on him?
