Camping and crappie fishing

Postby CaptnT » Sun Apr 09, 2006 4:36 pm

No, I'm not from Missouri.

My vacation is this week, and the kids (11, 9 & 5) are out of school Friday, so I am making plans to take them camping. I took this week off to concentrate on the crappie spawn, but the water levels are too low to wade at Arkabutla.

This is a good excuse to make a trip to Enid or Greneda, or even Sardis if I can find a decent campground with a good playground, near some good wading spots. I was thinking of going to Elvis Presely lake because I heard how good the bass fishing (not quality, but quantity for the kids), but would rather be near some good crappie spots.

Anyone ever camp at John Cossar or Hugh White? Are they near any decent crappie spots? I have a small johnboat as well. Any advise would be appreciated.

If you're wanting to wade you'll be hard pressed to find many spots at Grenada. It's so low that none of the flats have any water so no brush to fish around, just the snags in the main body of the lake or a few stumps on the edge of the rivers/creeks that feed into the lake. Enid might be better, hopefully it caught most of that rain from the other night. Anybody know of a website for the lake stage or stages for the rivers that feed them??

Randall, you are the man...I have been wanting something like that...I have to check daily...now I can have real-time updates. I'm sitting here watching the pot of water waiting on it to boil...them idiots have got that lake too low. SHIIT all I want is 4 more ft of lake level and I'll be fine...that's not too much to ask for now is it????
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I camp at Cossar pretty much all summer. Nice campground, family oriented. Kids can swim in the pool and play putt-putt and disc golf. Fishing is pretty decent in Bean Creek too.
