Secret to O's Success

Postby Deltamud77 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:24 pm

What is the secret to O's success in recruiting. I am not trying to beat a dead horse (although I probably am) or piss anyone off. I am not an Ole Miss fan, but I am also not a conspiracy theorist so I am not buying into the "he is paying every one" talk just yet. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

If you are a D1 coach you are going to put in long hours, no matter where you are. I hear that he puts in so many hours recruiting. That may be true but so do a lot of other coaches with much less success.

Even Ole Miss fans have to admit that he was not working with the most attractive of situations going into January with recruiting. The program has been down as of late, they had a poor year this year, the football facilities are nice but the kids are not sitting in a 90K+ seat stadium, from my observation O is not the most charismatic person, he ran off a lot of players from his team and first recruiting class. How does he do it? Is it the promise of early playing time, his ties to USC (they weren't good when he arrived and he recruited well there), his charisma, his X's and O's coaching talk and ability,or the fact that he offers early and often that contributes to his success.

Like I said, I don't want to beat a dead horse or ruffle any feathers, I was just wondering what your perspectives on his recruiting success are.

Man, I am so ready for September.

he's actually very charismatic........ the majority of the players still on the team love him and have bought in to what he's doing....

and there's not many coaches out there as relentless as O, nor do they work as hard or as many hours. I'm not shooting down any other div. 1 coach in Mississippi, nor their school, but none of them work as hard as Orgeron at recruiting or love recruiting like he does

He always has a slice of bologna in each of his shoes and plays the banjo on his home visits ---that way he feels kinda "funny", happy and charasmatic all at the same time.

The hummers he gives away are just the icing on the cake.

He is obviously doing something right. I graduated from LSU and fear that he is going to take some recruits away from the Tigers this year. He already has the top O-linemen in the state. Louisiana has some serious talent this year, including a possible top five overall player in the country in Joe McNight from John Curtis in NO. If you have not seen any highlights on this kid, try to find some, he is amazing.

Or it could be he leads the nation in scholly offers with 112.  I think it would be funny if all 112 would commit at once. Can you say CRAWFISH.

Don, we would be very lucky if that were to happen --which it WON'T.

Coach Croom would not think such to be too funny since he has pretty much already offered every player that UM has offered within the state of MS. Believe it or not, but there are about 12-20 football players in MS that are considered by most schools to be deserving and worth the risk of an early offer.

Like I said before, MSU's junior day is coming up soon. After this, I would expect MSU to pick up a few early HS commits ---those who pretty much already know that they want to go to MSU and just want to focus on high school football this fall.

There will be several in MS, who both schools want, who will want to wait until the tail end of the recruiting process. And there will be a couple of commits in each camp who will decommit along the way. And each school will likely be the beneficiary of some other school's decommits as well. It is all just part of the recruiting game every year.

I kinda like the fact that things are happening much earlier now in this process. It makes it more interesting and lets you know who to watch during the upcoming high school season.

Like it or not. O has the Bulldog fateful wondering if UM hired a combination of Jackie Wayne Sherrill and Bobby Boucher(coonass sp?) No doubt he can't recruit....but can he organize, coach, and stay out of the cross hairs of the NCAA???? :? :? :? Time will tell, but I think UM hired a snake oil salesman....time will tell....time will tell. In the meantime, stay clear of flying headbutts :!: :P
