I know nothing about engines, but what should I do (other than paying someone $50 to fix it):
While sharpening the blades, I tilted my lawnmower on its side. I presume oil went somewhere it doesn't belong. It cranked up after I did this with tons of smoke, but now a few weeks later, it won't turn.
Any lawnmower experts out there? Thanks.

Start with your plug, odds are you fowled it up by turning it on the side, thats were the oil went. drain what oil you have left out and replace with fresh then put in a new plug, That should get it unless you locked up the engine.

FYI, I am by no way an expert on lawnmowers but I have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express before hahaha.

cookmducks is right on target... shoot a little W-D 40 with a new plug and you will be good to go...{ always tilt back, not side }...

Hey Softcall...I had one of those "self-changing oil" specials myself one time. Add a little oil, thin the sludge, fan the smoke, do business. I think that type of engine is called "break-em-and-scrap-em"...or, briggs&stratten as they print it on the box.

welldoggie - just ran it today. I think that I have the coal miner's "black lung" from walking behind it. I am ready for cold weather - eeeeenuff of this yard work!

Got one of them "just add oil" motors myself. Two positives 1)Its one less thing to worry about changing the oil in 2) After a while the smoke will keep them skeeters off ya while cutting in the late evening!
