Judge, you helped me out on the Eurasian doves subject, got another ? for ya. We have also seen some doves in the past that are very small. They look just like a morning dove but feathers resemble a woodcock type of feather w/black bands on the end of the feather. They are about the size of a redbird
(cardinal). We saw these around in December till present so we know that they're not just young doves. Hopefully I can get a pick of them to post. Thanks

Just wondering if you know any of the Pounds from Columbia? I went hunting with one of them in Illinois this past weekend.

I think we have some of those here in SC. We refer to them as Rock doves. How they got that name I don't know. But it does sound very much like you are describing. Maybe half the size of a normal dove. Just started noticing them a lot over the last three years.

What Pounds are you talking about?? I work with one of them and know several.

LabLuvR, you must have done your home-work on that one... a new dove to me... don't reckon i have ever come across one... have you noticed since the el-nino thing in the 90's there are alot of song birds and other strange animals appearing... several wrens and warblers making their migration in areas they never traveled before...don't know whether to blame it on weather or man..

I always thought that a rock dove was a pidgeon.

Look in your bird guide at ground doves. What you are describing sounds like them.

They may be ground doves. A very small dove,
not much larger than a sparrow. They will have a stubby black tail and rounded wings that flash rufous in flight. Nods its head as it walks. Feet yellow. Jack

Shoot them sprigs on their first pass!
