Update on the Duckmen's boat

Postby MSDuckmen » Mon May 06, 2002 8:05 pm

Boy oh boy I took a week off from work to do a list of honey dues and habitat work and boy am I glad to get back to work.

Have an update on my boat motor and it just goes to show you how things sometimes work out. Keith Jones from our Duck Club near Indianola, Gave me a old 70 horse power Evenrude motor that he had sitting on a pallet outside of the camp and between the one I had that burned a bearing and the one he gave me I was able to build one that looks like it will run. Key word is LOOKS. I got it all painted up and fancy looking but have not put gas to it yet as I will be replacing all the gas in the tank with fresh Ethel and oil. Maybe this weekend I will fire her up and see if it will run. The engine Keith gave me was frozen up as well but I found that it was just from sitting up for several years. The bottom cylinder piston lobe had a fair amount of rust on it and it took two days of work to free it up but appears to be working fine now. I have soaked it for two weeks in 2-cycle oil to make sure all parts are well lubed. When I crank it (if it will crank) I will run it at idle for about an hour and use a 30 to 1 oil mix for the first couple of tanks of gas. Will not run full throttle until the second tank full. Wish me luck. Thanks Keith for the motor. Just goes to show you what kind of guy he is and that is another reason why I keep telling you boys about his duck club.

I also want to remind you boys I talked with at the Delta meeting that was asking me about catalpa trees, you need to contact me again as I’ running short of room and need to get those trees to you.

Thanks for all of you that placed orders on our layout blinds the timetable has past to order this year as we now have more than we can handle and still hunt. If your still in the market look me up after new years

Decided to try and run a triathlon this year with my hunting partner so you boys keep me in your thoughts while I train. When your kicking 50 in the head you need to take things slow but I ‘m afraid if I don’t do this now I may never be able to do it again. Just don’t want to die running no dang race, if I got to go I’d rather go in the duck hole. For those of you that saw some fool on mud island at the reservoir this past Friday and was wondering what he was doing I can tell you. That nut put out 200 pounds of mixed millet, Milo and Sunflowers all over that flat and two other sites in twin sisters and the guy doesn’t even hunt the Res anymore. You just can’t figure people like that; he must just have a screw loose. I will say though that my wife thinks he’s a good-looking thing to be so dumb.
