Hey what was the name for the dove that people are starting to see in the state?? Heard the Judge and some other folks talking about them on here last year. Saw a couple a birds in the country other day that were smaller than a pigeon but bigger than a dove and a little bit lighter in color.

Skippy, these over-sized doves are refered to as Eu-rasion {sp?} doves or banded, or collared doves... new comers to my area.. a big bird with a dove sized head... i have several pairs nesting around my Moultrie feeder... not a member of the mourning dove and there is no limit or even a season on them....{will be one day, count on it} you can actually harvest one at any time... i kinda like to see what happens with their success and welcome another NEW bird to hunt... need to report any birds harvested to the MDWFP for their info reports...

Yep i have some of these that nest in a big pine every year in my yard. The doves are almost white in color and like u said bigger than a normal dove but smaller than a pigeion. I thought they were turtle doves. They also have a semi black ring around the back of their neck. ..........Eu-raision hmmmmmmmm anybody got any Ideas on how they got here............ I pretty sure one of you guys is already thinking, heck they flew here of course. hehehehehehe

Thanks guys, you discribed them to a tee. I saw the black band around the neck. Saw one in Philadelphia and a pair on the side of the road out in the country. Can't shoot em' during dove season huh? Pretty good size bird, wonder how they gonna taste????

you can shoot em any-time... our dove season is for mourning doves only... these eurasion birds are not a part of the bag limit... no set season or harvest limit... they do not count against your bag limit....

hmmm, sounds kinda fishy. Like when someone got the bright idea that it would be fun to have a horse with more stamina, but not as stupid as a donkey==>put lipstick on the horse, play soft music and let in a stud donkey...bang, you got a mule.
So, if this new bird is bigger than a dove and smaller than a pigeon, then I'm thinkin it all started with a stud dove that just liked the PLUS size women...found a willing pigeon and boom, the Eur-asian breed begins.
So, if a pigeon is disease carrying and not fit to eat, could you barbecue one of these new creatures without getting sick ??

Yep that's them alright, we have about 8-12 that we've had hanging around the house all winter. Hopefully by sept. they'll be plenty more!!!!! A fella wouldn't need more than 8 to have a sack full.

4-eyed, now there was probably a 32.5 degree can of hops in the planning and 2 or 12 sets of aluminum curls in the future but I know what I saw. And it wasn't with Bud Lite goggles strapped firmly in place!! Good to hear from you!! Check your PM!!!

I killed a big ole ringnecked dove on a hunt last year in Fitler, MS. I was for sure that i had killed a BOONE AND CROCKET mourning dove til someone told me what it was.

I have noticed them around the NW MS area as well. They have a different call, and are much bigger.
What I want to know is "How do they taste?"
If there is no season and no limit, I know a spot I can harest a few FOR SURE.
