been bowfishing for about 7 years at least now. It is a blast. Do you remember where I told you back in duck season that I found the ducks in that field on fogg road? well, last time that was flooded was quite a few years ago (that I was aware of anyway), we absolutely slaughtered the carp and buffalo in that field south of conger rd. We shot the bigger fish on the east side of the road however, on the south side of hurricane (i believe thats the name of the creek anyway). For extremely large fish, go to horseshoe lake in arkansas...fish up to 75 lbs aren't uncommon there...those big grass carp. I do have a couple of other close holes here with clear water that produce on an average night upwards of 300 lbs of fish (all species) and that is not an all night trip..usually about 4 hours or so.

Living next to the Ms River, when the river would get to about 30 on the Memphis gauge, boy it would be alot of fun to shoot those buffalo, carp and garr. Even would get to shoot a few stripers. Standing in 6" water would make it sweet.

Been Bowfishing for about 6 yrs. and shoot alot of fish in chotard, but Lousiana is the place to be. The Gar are huge and the redfish are plentiful. There are alot of fish that are eatable down there. You have Flounder, Redfish, Catfish (huge), Sheephead. You even get into alot of small stingrays and some sandsharks. If you have never been down there, I would suggest taking a guide the first time. It is a huge place and everything looks the same. The Rez. in Jackson sux. Everything in there is like shooting a #2 pencil, pretty hard to hit. Also, in Lousiana you need to be able to shoot a float, so, the slotted retreiver works well. I have a boat with six lights at 500 watts a peice. With a raised deck for a better water penetrating angle. It is 18Ft. and 72" wide. It works great. A regular aluminum boat would be dangerous because if it goes down everything else is going to. Good luck to you all, and Hope to see ya on the water. Quote from MDWFP

Only buffalo, carp, gar and bowfin may be taken throughout the year by the use a bow and arrow. Persons taking these fish using bow and arrows must have a valid hunting and/or sport fishing license or exempt under 49-7-5.

My understanding has always been anything that is not specified as a game fish. Here in Mississippi the Quote that duckhuntalot is refering to is probably correct. But, Not one of the fish I mentioned can be found in Ms. other than on the coast. If catfish are illegal to take with a bow in Ms. then this is the first of me hearing it.

On the MDWFP website it says:
Quote: "Flathead and Blue catfish are gamefish in non-navigable streams and lakes"

Any where that is Navigable by boat this does not exist. So, you can shoot catfish if you can navigate a boat.
