i saw on the www.mdwfp.com that Ms. first dove banding program will be at Hell Creek WMA this year.. it would be neat to see how these birds migrate and give us a little info on HERE TODAY-GONE TOMMORROW...i'm just curious as to how they will capture numbers of these blue-darts... will get more info from the park manager and see if they need any volunteers.. it is located on the Tippah-Union Co. line..{ GulfCoasts' old stompin grounds} i'd donate a day just to learn more...haha....

I would think they would use a mist net (I think thats what they call it, been a while since I seen one). It will be interesting to find out some results on the banding.

Hey Judge, have you seen these "ringneck" doves? They look just like morning doves except they have a small black ring around their neck and are about the size of a pigeon. I've heard someone say they are called "Egyptian Pigeons" We just started seening them this past year. You put 15 of those in a sack and you'd have a real limit!

have been seeing quite a few pairs this year.. Eurasian Doves is what they call them.{i think} i haven't had the chance to put one in the skillet, but my day will come.. there is no season or limit on them so i may try one any day..... only wish they weren't paired up... guess i will wait until Sept.... never seen one until a year ago, and it seems they are showing up regularly... only a matter of time til there will be a season and limit... YES, i remember when there was no DOVE SEASON.... quote, unquote... bring on the big birds....haha....

I am a grad student in wildlife at Mississippi State, and a friend of mine is doing research at Hell Creek and banding the doves. If you have any questions concerning his project, email him at jmb349@ra.msstate.edu. He would welcome any inquries. I think the research is very worthwhile, and it is good to see the MDWFP working on this.
