I keep my dog inside at night. I have been told that this will cause her to get cold when we hunt. I quess it is due to not being acclimated to the cold. Is this true? Just wondering.

I have always kept mine inside for the past 5 years. Never thought much about it making him cold while we hunt, but I guess he's used to it after 5 years. Never seemed to bother him much... at least he never said anything to me about it.

Had the same problem so I started kenneling outside when it started cooling off and he grew in a thicker coat. We will see how he does this year.

I also noticed the same problem with heat. He used to lay under AC all summer and when we trained it really got to him. This did get better once he was outside most of the time.

ever notice how when it gets cold, your beard tends to grow a bit faster? Same concept, colder weather stimulates fido's undercoat to grow out thicker therefore allowing him to withstand the cold a little bit better. btw - mine stays inside too, she freezes her booty off when it gets cold sometimes

bodeen, if your dog loves to hunt, it dont get cold enough around here to bother him. he might shiver a little, but i dont think it will make him not go.

All animals tend to lose hair in the summer and gain it back in the winter. However, if they dont ever have to go outside they aint gonna grow it. Ive been keepin mine outside for the past two weeks and i can already tell she is gettin thicker on the fuzzy stuff. Ill have to agree with Got Chocolate and say that it aint gonna get cold enough here to keep a dog that loves to hunt at the house. IMO

Mine stays inside all year long and doesn't have any problems with the cold. If you're worried then get a neoprene vest for your dog, it's amazing the difference it makes.

I'll second the vest thingy. Every calorie a dog spends keeping warm, is a caolrie he cant give you. travis
