Moultrie feeders....

i just recieved a pair of Magnum 30 gal. feeders and plan to place one in the bottom and one on the deer camp.. any one have success or failure tips???
i'm fixin to fatten up something, may be squirels and coons, but they cook up too...... thought i would get some input before i placed them out....

not planning on hunting around them, trust me I know better. will be planting about 25 to 30 acres of food plots during this spring and summer.. something i have wanted too do for-ever.... just want to give the wildlife alittle supplemental food source... not to mention the small game.. would like to see one more good year for Quail... i kinda like to watch something good happen...

already got seed and fert. and lime was put out last week.. just waitin on the weather to get right... thought a corn, soybean and pellet mixture might work to grow a good herd...

we just bought one for our trip to south texas. we bought the moultry "tailgaiter". It fits in the receiver hitch on the back of your truck and runs off 12v receptacle with an on/off switch. the "guides" in texas have them on all their trucks. this year unfortunately we wont have guides so we are having to do it ourselves. once the animals have become accustomed to the feeders, the unmistakeable sound of their slinging feed is like a dinner bell to the animals. in years past when we went down there within 30 seconds of the guide "corning" the road there were animals in it...usually does coming out first. the hogs/javelina took a little longer, but they DID show up...and it was next to impossible to run em off. even after shooting one the others would return within 5 minutes.

I have ran Moultrie feeders here for several years for wild hog hunting. They seem to be pretty reliable, occasionally one will go on the blink, but stuff happpens right? Did you get the digital or the dusk dawn type with the eye?????

BTW do NOT hang your feeders with a rope, use a cable or something else unless you bought the free standing type. Coons are notorious here for being wayyyy too smart and knawing through the rope to make the bucket(s) fall.

I hunted in texas two years ago and the feeders were awsome, I averaged seeing over 30 deer a day and most of the bucks, It does kinda take the sport out of it, but it was still a great time. For the record, after ten days of hunting, I dropped two does on the last day for the freezer, The biggest deer that I passed up had already been passed once during the week by a fellow member of the hunting party and we have pictures, 8 point with about a 19" spread, I would have shot him but it was early in the hunt and he had very short tines.

If I had your money I would buy some covered trophs and just put soybeans in them. That would feed the deer. The deer need the protein now. Beans are pretty cheap.

Kinda illegal to hunt around a baited station in ole Missipp'. But as a benefit to all forms of wildlife the feeders can't be beat. Get you avideo camera and have a great time watching the wildlife that comes to the feeders. One of those trail cameras that take the pictures at nite are a blast too.Just sit back and enjoy but don't shoot.

hey judge if you want somthing to help, try putting out trace minerals either in the bag or the block. It helps majorly in antler growth. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

Judge - One thing you may want to consider is using scratch feed instead of whole corn. Sometimes the whole kerrnel corn clogs our feeders up at the funnel. We use scratch and it comes out great. The deer do not benefit as much but the turkeys, quail, grouse, etc... love it. Also, to give the deer what they want we also sometimes mix in some soy beans with the scratch and it works great for all game. Dry corn really doesn't have that much nutrients for deer but the beans sure do.
