No doubt about it! I have been a police officer for some years now, and NEVER have I responded to a call where an offense was carried out against an armed person. This obviously doesnt include dope boys shooting at each other, but where a citizen like any of us was minding his own business and someone tried to car-jack, rob, burglarize, etc. if this innocent person was armed not once in my experience has the perpetrator been successful! This experience includes probably around 2 or 300 of these type incidents. 90% of the time not a shot was fired, the gun alone deterred the act sending the bad guy looking for easier prey. I did see one instance where two fellas were arguing over the price of a kilo of cocaine and decided to settle it with their pistols, 1st guy drew and fired hitting the other. After he fell to the ground he took the money and dope and went to get back in the car. Before he got to the car the fella that had been shot had enough left in him to draw his weapon and shoot the other in the back, by the time we got there both were dead. Saved us all alot of tax dollar!

I appreciate you Harley.. you being on the Law Enforcement side of trouble when it begins, no Judge or Procecuter can imagine just what the atmosphere is at the time of the stop or arrest.. we can only act on what we hear in testimony during court..{please excuse us of that}. good post, and keep up the good work..

by the way, have you seen the new Harley's that represent the police depts. and fire depts... blue for police and red for firemen.... neat machines... need a black for Judges.....haha....

Thanks for the kind words Judge, no I have not seen the new fire and police Harley's I bet their pretty sharp. The only Harley I got is a 5 year old black lab. Probably as close as I'll ever get to one, but he suits me just fine. DD I share your same passion, got into a huge argument with a ATF agent the other day about gun control. Some of those guys will scare you with their ideas! Think their the only ones in the country who know how to use a firearm.

How do I feel about guns? I think everybody should have one! If government (local & federal) would enforce the laws we have on the books already there would be no need to create new ones against guns! I consider honest people like you and others allies in my line of work. If someone attempts to harm you or your family, most of the time you dont have time to make a phone call and wait on police to get there. If you are a responsible gun owner and handle your business accordingly all I got to do is take pictures and write a report. Please dont think all SWAT members think alike because they dont! I have been one for two years now and you see how I feel about it. Most police, ATF, etc. that have a negative stance on gun ownership are the guys who 90% of the time never even held a gun prior to law enforcement. They get a couple months training and become self proclaimed experts that gain the mindset that John Q public isnt qualified to carry a firearm. On the other hand most people that came up seeing the recreational side of firearms (ie hunting and sport shooting)believe as you and I do. I could go on for hours about this but I'll spare everyone the drama.

Good point Gulf Coast. My dad died about 8 years ago and now I have all his old guns. I dont use but about 2 or 3 of them but I will never sell them or get rid of them because of that point (they are not registered) as well as the sentimental value they possess.

Harley,

I wondered how you felt about gun laws.

I have had the same argument with ATF, and SWAT team personal. Some of them think they are the only people that should be able to have a gun. I don't want to be able to brake down a door and walk through a house, shoot til they drop and finish then off with a head shot. I do want to be able to own guns and use them in a responsible manner.

I don't think people need mac 10s and fully auto weapons with 30 round clips. I've had them and shot them in ROTC. How ever I will fight for their right to own them just as much as I have fought for my Glock 17 with 18 round clips, my shotgun and my rifle.
When you give an inch those no count low life anti-gun liberal SOBs will take a mile.

Just enforce the laws that are on the books now!!!!!!!!!

Did you come to the DU Stag event in Tunica a few years ago? I hope to see you April 6th at the msducks get together.

I used to go to all of the DU Tunica events, a buddy of mine hunts at Old River behind the levee. Through hunting with him I got to know Robert Stanton, therefore attending the DU events. Did not get to go this year because of work but Ill try to be back next year, always had a good time there. Just got my invitation to the truck giveaway yesterday gonna do my best to be there, probably the best chance anybody could have to win a free truck! I have also been coming down to Mr. Peagram's dove hunt every year since I was a kid.
