Depends on the situation. I used to be a wood man, but I got a great acrylic that is winning me over. Wood for flooded timber though.

Well that leads to another question, single or double reed?

I like both, but find the single can reach out farther.

Single reeds are more versatile, but I have heard some double reeds that were louder than singles.

I like single reed wood...nothing wrong with acrylics sound...but wood is beautiful...and I can get more tonal range with a single than a double, generally speaking....

Wood - single reed - timber Echo

I did have an acrylic Roten that was a sweet soundin call, but every time it got below 32 degrees that sucker would freeze up, and it didn't hafta be way below 32 either. 31 1/2 and it was stuck. Anybody else had trouble with acrylics freezin on em? Just curious.
