May be moving to Mississippi

Move over, because Koz may be coming to a duck hole near you.

If my fiance doesn't get transferred to Cincinatti we'll be moving to Olive Branch. We should find out in two months or so. In the mean time we are getting the house ready to sell. I figure this duck season will be over before we make a move.

If we do, I'll need to do lots of scouting and find all of your secret duck holes on public land. If you guys don't like folks from the Carolinas, I can't imagine how much you'll hate a guy from California. And, I'm originally a Yankee to boot, I grew up in Indiana. Although I have probably lived more south than most of you have. I worked in the Caribbean for a few years.

Anyway, if you could see fit to show me around the local duck holes if and when I move out there I'd sure appreciate it.

Right now you're thinking 'yeah right, I'm not showing this "turd-cutter" anything.' So, let me sweeten the pot. I have access (future father-in-law) to 1000 acres of rice and a private duck club in the bootheel of MO I can hunt whenever I want, and no hunting buddies out there to share it with.

I really like public land for a change of pace, that's how I cut my teeth on waterfowl out here in CA.

He sure talks alot not to say much, and just for your information. The South is not a direction, its a way of life. Just because you worked in a region that is southern of our location doesnt have anything to do with it. Once you get here, hopefully you will evently understand this.

Double R2-

I mainly hunt the Salton Sea area, mostly Wister and some freelancing around there. I also hunt San Jacinto.

regis -

I know 'The South' is a state of mind, much like Margaritaville. I was just poking fun at you guys.

Gordon-

Short season + no ducks = long season + no ducks + 3 1/2 hour drive just to shoot ducks.

Plus with trips to Canada, the Dakotas and the spring conservation order I figure I'd hunt even more than I do now.

Welcome to Mississippi.. for the most part public land here is not like California..for one thing there is not as much public land as in California.

I would suggest trying to find a lease to duck hunt if possible..if not possible try the wildlife refuges that allow duck hunting on certain days..hunt the week days..weekends are crowded and often have "sky-busting contests".

Duck hunting in Mississippi is hit or miss..a large part depends on the weather up north..basically is usually has to get real cold up there to push the ducks down here.

Welcome to Mississippi! The public duck hunting here can be fabulous DURING THE WEEK. On the weekends, it is like a SWAT team training ground.....

Well I thought from the Drag Queen Contest post I saw you guys have you were importing them from around the country. Not me though, getting married in 2 weeks.

Josey-

There really isn't that much public duck hunting land in CA. There is a lot of BLM land here, but none of it is suitable waterfowl habitat. Mainly lots of buzztails and quail. That with the fact that it's between a three and twelve hour drive depending on traffic and where you go, I think there are alot more opportunities in Miss.

Oh yeah, I think the skybuster originated here in CA. We sure have our fair share.
