Ivory-Billed Woodpecker?
Posted: Fri Feb 22, 2002 6:41 pm
Last confrimed sighting: 1940s, Talulah, La.
Six bird experts who have spent the past month searching for an ivory-billed woodpecker in a Slidell area swamp said they didn't spot the bird.
Sponsored by Zeiss Sports Optics, the recent search was inspired by the reported sighting of a pair of ivory-billed woodpeckers in 1999 by David Kulivan, a LSU forestry graduate student who was hunting wild turkeys in the swamp at that time. His detailed account stood up to repeated questioning by bird experts.
Have any of you ever seen one? Also, if you did,, would you tell anyone? I have been in the woods all my life and have yet to see any strange birds. If I did, I probably would say anything about it. What do you all think? Jack
