I clicked on petas site to see what they are up to these days. You guys need to go there and click on their campains icon and click the hunting and fishing folder and the skins and furs folder. They really lay it on thick to get ppl to send them money. They were planning on having a commercial to be aired on TV that shows a woman being clubbed to death by a man because she was wearing a fur coat can u guys belive that. If you go to the skins a fur site check out the Icons that look like ads in the lower left hand corner. They have even gotten stores to lable tomatoes to throw @ ppl wearing fur coats. They even give the best kinds to throw. Check out the icons on the hunting and fishing too they are ridiculus :rolleyes :I can't belive that people would buy all the hogwash and BS that they have put on their site. They are attacking the hunter harassment laws and congressmen. They are even attacking the March of Dimes..They call it the March of Crimes .....We need to keep up with PETA and their sister organiztions to see what they are doing all the time. Scouting out the enemy is what I call it.

That is some really messed up stuff. It is hard to imagine that there are some people who think that way. It is one thing not to hunt, but another completely to try to take that right away from those of us who enjoy it. It seems to me that they would be putting their members in harms way encouraging the harassment of hunters. Can you imagin a group of them showing up at your duck hole on morning with a jam box? I think we might have to have a contest to see which one coud hold their breath the longest...just for fun. So much for being politically correct.

It is for reasons like these that I commented about DU in the manner I did. It is crucial that org. have large numbers in Washington to be heard. I bet in Conn. that the number of members to org. like DU, NRA and ect. are extremely low in comparision. On the flip side if I bet the numbers of members of PETA in the state of Mississippi are few and far between. That is why it is important to teach all children/youth about the lifestyle that we all enjoy. It is imperative that even though we do not understand where all the money DU gets goes, it is being spent for one sole purpose, to preserve waterfowl and waterfowl hunting.

yep thats it dryloc click on the campains then the skins and furs and fishing and wildlife folders. As far as putting their people in harms way alot of them are just as committed to stopping hunting as we are committed to hunting. I saw a story several years back on the news, some of you may remember it. A guy I think he was in montana hunting buffalo. The Game and fish people were there with him, alot of the ememy was too. He picked him out a bull buffalo and had his sites on him all these people were standing behind him shouting hollering and carring on. Well just about time the guy got ready to shoot one of the crazies jumped in front of him and his rifle. The consevation officers there grabbed him and handcuffed him and took him too jail. All this was on video tape and used in court. I saw the tape of what had happend on the news. He was found guily and made too pay a fine.. I dont remember what he was charge with or how much the fine was but if memory serves me correctly this incident is what pushed the hunted harassment laws that we have today. The hunted still got to take the bull. If any of you remember this and need too correct me feel free to do so, as my kids are always telling me I have ole timers disease.

Yep, PETA and the other goofs are potential problems. But, there is an ace in the hole. Do you know what the largest Caucus in the Congress is? The Congresional Sportsmans Caucus. Here is a link to their site.
http://wwwa.house.gov/collinpeterson/CSC/
Also, Chip Pickering is one of the House leaders of this caucus http://www.sportsmenslink.org/cscleadership2.html. I say this because there is going to be a big battle this year between Chip, a Republican, and Ronnie Shows, a Democrat. There is also a Foundation. here is the link.
http://www.sportsmenslink.org/

I would suggests looking at the board of directors

http://www.sportsmenslink.org/board.html

Notice the companies and organizations listed. Delta is, DU is not.

Wow...i have read it before but it never ceases to amaze me what these arseholes can say. Having an MS in wildlife, working on a Ph.D., and having studied ducks from most of my formal education I like this statment the best from that weblink:

"Wildlife management" and "conservation" are euphemisms used to describe programs that ensure that there are always enough animals for hunters to hunt.

Well, what can I say except that is wrong and right at the same time. Believe me when i say i am one of the more liberal people on this site but I have been trained and will continute to promote HARVESTABLE populations of waterfowl. That's right PETA, not sustainable, cause that ain't good enough, HARVESTABLE...a useable surplus that I will grill the hell out of.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Ringbill,
Keep us updated on the research ya'll did this winter.

When you get out of school and get married and have kids those liberal ideals will fade.

Delta Duck,
I got the married part down...for 4 years now, but as for the kids part...hmmmm. Anyway, we were at your place this last week and removed our "exclosures" from your field south of the church. I don't have any data to report yet because I still have about 1500 muddy core samples to pick the rice out of, but hopefully I will be able to tell you more sometime in April.

Ringbill,
That is a good deal. Most of the food was eaten by snow geese. I hope that will help. I can't wait to see yall's data.

If you don't mind please tell me why you think you are one of the more liberal folks on here? Besides having a govt job and alot of student loans.

Well, Delta, I don't really want to open myself to the scrutiny this might bring. I am not man enough to tell you all the reasons in the open forum, but I can PM some of them to you.

Anyway, I am just a lowly rice picker. The student loans I got, but not the government job yet. A variety of funds support my research, including DU. Thanks for supporting them and my research by the way for all that do.

"If one is not a liberal at 20 years of age, he has no heart! If he is not conservative by 40, he has no head!"
Winston Churchill

That about says it right as far as my experience goes. Funny how much more conservative I got after I got out of college and, as my Daddy said, "got a real job." So many of my ideals that I valued so highly when young have passed away with time. But, I still know what my core values are, and they will never be compromised. So, Ringbill, you have some time to sort out what is real and what is just "youthful idealism." What separates those two in my mind is one question, "Would I die to preserve this value?" Kinda clarifies things.

You know, I've heard of "bean counters," but I don't believe I've ever known a "rice counter." Sounds kinda like a Vietnamese accountant, huh! Good luck on the research.
