Your welcome, quackaddict. Now when are you gonna show us some of your fishin" holes?
I am truely thankful we live in a state that has such wonderful resources, and I am glad you have a place to take your son. We all need to understand the importance of passing on this great sport to the next generation. I read where Canadian duck hunter numbers have declined considerably in the past 10 years, something like 150%. If the anti's ever get a foothold there, it will be much harder to fight them.

Come on out! The crappie are starting to bite and it won't be long before the bass are bedding. We caught some (bass) the other day in my pond. Turkeys are starting to gobble and our season will be open March 15th. Would be glad to return the hospitality.

Be VERY careful talking about those gobblers...you might come home from work and find 15 red-necks on you front porch....I live in Mississippi, and hunt all over the country, but we do have the best folks around. I'm very proud of that. Just tell the guys that come here to hunt to walk over, and introduce themselves, we can be fairly agreeable. If everone would just show a little more respect for the other guy, we would get along even better....

Same here QA. My 9 yr. old had ducks on him the last day of the youth hunt and until then din't know what I meant by "landing gear". I want to show him better. So...I intend to check out MS and am encouraged by the good words. Information about public lands and fees is where I'm at now. Just getting started. Looking forward to making the trip if conditions are inviting.
Strippers should be running in the rivers soon.
Any good links to information would be appreciated.

I have read with great amusement some of the posts here and just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. Yes, I am an OOSer and have been driving to your hunting paradise for the last several years in my quest to show my son what real duck hunting is like. I vagely remember the days of my own youth when there were ducks in the swamps of SC. Then the National Refuges were under-funded and nothing was planted for the migrating flocks. This completely changed the Atlantic flyway to a point that I think it will never return to the days of my youth. I post all that crying-in-my-beer story so you can begin to understand one of the reasons why we OOSers come to see you every fall. The other reason is your reputation for being the most hospitable people in the country. I have found this to be a well deserved reputation, even when there were very few ducks. Three years ago it was the drought, but several local duckers showed us a small place where we were able to take a few greenheads. Two years ago, it was ice, and lots of it! We broke two outboards, but again were able to take a few ducks with the help of a MS farmer who had never seen us before! This year, too much water! We had paid a farmer to allow us to hunt and when it was all said and done, he wouldn't take our money because of the conditions. Said it just wouldn't be right. So while I read the posts that grumble about the OOSers, I know in my heart that we all want the same thing, to pass this great sport on to the generation behind us in a better condition than what we found it in! I just wanted to say thanks to you guys in the Delta for being the caring sportsmen that you are.

Just don't do like the SC guy I took flying as a favor. He was hunting a guided hunt with a friend of mine...I was going up with my friend to film and this guy and his son wanted to come along. I agreed, and as we were flying round the area with the thousands of birds...this knucklehead pulls out his GPS and punches in the coords! He then has the nerve to ask me if he punches in coords in the air, could he get back to that spot on the ground. Hehe...too bad a group of doctors owned this particular spot and they ain't much on invitin' folks to hunt. Some people just cut the cake.

What would be wrong with out of staters being required to use a guide. They do this in several states for big game. Their success would be greater and guides pay state income tax that we could use. It's great that people come down to enjoy our resources and spend money but, we spend money too for hotels, gas, eats, etc... IMHO it would work better for all of us who live here when the birds are gone. I am sure the guides wouldn't mind and would appreciate the additional business and it wouldn't be as crazy on the public land. (FYI I very rarely hunt public land but a lot of my friends do)

I didn't mean to stir up an emotional pot. I just wanted to compliment everyone I have met on the three trips I've made to MS. I've never been around better, more friendly people in my life. The crux of my message was that in the last three years, despite terrible conditions, FELLOW HUNTERS have directed me and my son to both private and public lands where we were able to take a few birds. That's the kind of message we as a group of like minded people who enjoy the same sport should be sending and teaching our kids. It's not about killing, it's about being there and enjoying what God has given to us.

Thanks for the invite Swampland. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I've been out of town and just got back. My son and I would love to experience "black sky shooting," what ever that is?!! Could you explain?

When the sky is black with ducks.
Folks say it only happens in Mississippi.

I've never seen anything close to "black sky" but I'd sure like to, even if it only meant shooting at them with a camera!
