STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- If fourth-ranked Louisiana State wants to beat Mississippi State for a sixth straight meeting, it will have to overcome shocks and fatigue.
After just a four-day break, the Tigers will visit the Bulldogs on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference matchup.
Because of Hurricane Rita, LSU (1-1, 0-1 SEC West) was forced to push its scheduled conference opener against No. 10 Tennessee back two days to Monday night. The Tigers blew a 21-point halftime lead before falling to the Volunteers in overtime, 30-27.
Colt David booted a 31-yard field goal for LSU to begin the extra period before Tennessee's Gerald Riggs scored on a one-yard run to complete the stunning comeback.
The Tigers have dominated the Bulldogs in recent years, winning their last five meetings - including the last two by a combined 92-6 - since a 17-16 setback in 1999. Last year, LSU manhandled Mississippi State in Baton Rouge, 51-0.
The Bulldogs (2-2, 0-2 West) are coming off a 23-10 home setback to Georgia last weekend.
Leading rusher Jerious Norwood gained just 43 yards for Mississippi State, which was limited to 77 total yards in the first half and 254 overall.
