Unhappy Orgeron shuts down practice

The Clarion-Ledger

OXFORD — Frustrated with his team's lack of execution and energy, Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron kicked the Rebels off the practice field Tuesday.

The football team returned after about an hour.

"The tempo wasn't there, the execution wasn't there, so I told them to come back later," Orgeron said. "If they don't practice the way I want them to practice, that's it. We're done."

Orgeron's patience grew thin after about 90 minutes of repeatedly stopping plays to chew out those who appeared to be dragging. Eventually, he had seen enough and called the team together for a few choice words.

"I saw a lot of mistakes, lackadaisical effort, things I haven't seen since I've been here," he said. "I won't allow that to happen."

Coach O will not accept mediocrity. As of this afternoon, over 1/2 the players, including all of the kickers and half the OL, a handful of the coaches, several administrators, some team managers and trainers, a few cheerleaders, and over 1/3 of the fans were "fired" by Coach O for half-hearted, lazy effort exhibited generally since the season began. "Everyone needs to upgrade their intensity level", yelled Coach O. "Or we will never make it to the Shuga Bowl" growled the agitated Coach.

But, in case you are wondering, "I'm In". Yep, I'm still in, especially after headbutting a few of my employees and co-workers this morning to demonstrate my intensity level to Coach O. I plan to be at the Grove Sat. at 5:30 am for the 6:00pm kickoff. No sissy tents or raingear for me ---I'm waterproof. And with a little help from Old Starter, I'll be 10 foot tall and bulletproof by gametime. A few smoked tenderloin bisquits during the day will be all I need to sustain energy. And, depending upon the results of the Sat. morning tryout, I may be the starting kicker for UM later that evening, in which case, the Old Starter may have to wait until the post-game celebration.

Who else is still "In"?
