What an oxymoron! Sounds like government worker or fat Japanese wrestler. I just love this board. Thx for the intro Wildfowler. Here is my 40 years and 2 cents on diving crippled ducks. of course they don't commit suicide and drown themselves purposely. They are creatures of instinct. The innate ability not to killed, captured or retreived alive. The grabbing of underwater debris is to hide, survive, protect the species and perhaps live another day to breed the beautiful brown-breasted female. I have seen a 100 crippled ducks hit the water and disappear like the great Houdini. The dogs can't find em, the hunters can't find em and the hawks can't find em. Some float and some don't. It's called nature- not the intellectual ability of a bird to drown itself or contemplate suicide. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it!

i was hopeing every one would believe the intentional drowning thing... then if this FAT boys ever goes under and don't come up, i would be the DUCK HUNTIN HERO who gave his life to duckin....

I am with Captain Duck on this one. I have
had crippeled ducks dive and never surface also. On a couple of occasions years ago when I was able to wade, friends and I have walked through the submerged vegatation and kicked them loose. By the way a crippled Bufflehead (no bad legs) can go 50 yards or more underwater and stay down longer than you would think. I lost one and retrieved one this year. A learning experience.
