They sell these things called maps at Walmart

...Get the DeLorme Atlas of Mississippi...very detailed road maps with even some of the smaller gravel and dirt roads on there. Keep it in your vehicle...I've worn 2 out already.
If I were leaving Starkville, I'd take 82 to Winona, 55 to Batesville and 6 west to Marks.
There are other, more scenic routes, but that's the simplest, I think.

I'd take 82 west to Eupora. Get on 9 and head north. It'll split into 9 and 9w just north of Bruce. Get on 9w. You'll hit number 7 just outside of Oxford. Ride north on 7 till you hit number 6 in Oxford. It aint far. Head west on 6 and it'll carry you right into Marks. Prolly lookin' at 'bout two and a half hours. Mostly two lane between Starkville and Oxford, so that'll slow you down.
Could just ride 82 all the way to Winona and take the interstate up to Batesville and then ride 6 west into Marks. But that takes WAY longer.

Or...he could take 35 from Kosciusko through Vaiden, Carrolton and Holcomb, then head on up 35 until you get to the Yocona river. Hang a left on 322 and head west toward Crowder. At Crowder follow 322 on around to Lambert. Head north on 3 for 2 miles and you have arrived.
Total trip time, about 5 days.

But seriously, that's the way I go to Carthage when I leave here, only I take the West river road down that other road down to 32 and across to 35 at Charleston...but we might never see you again if you go that way.

I'm serious. Taking 82 to Winona and getting on I-55 will take you much longer. It's a little less complicated, but going through Oxford's pretty simple too.

Negative. Ive been both ways and 82 & 55 be much quicker. Also its easier. Maybe i just drive fast tho.

since they have opened up all the 4 lane, I believe 82 to 55 will be faster and easier

No matter what you do don't go to 25 to jackson then 55N to Batesville. Its much easier to just go to Tupelo via Birmingham
