What has happened to duck hunting?

Postby Lazy Drake » Fri Feb 08, 2002 2:15 pm

I found this post on another forum I stumbled across, I am sure the guy is full of it, I cant believe someone would post something like that.

***********Just finished 2 days of exhaustive scouting/hunting Black River WMA and have assembled an awesome collection of GPS data for many of the best holes on Black River WMA. This information is hard to come by and I guarantee this information will put you on the ducks...I'm not gonna elaborate about the specifics on this board, but let's just say I found the honey holes. Pricing is contingent on consumer interest, so all hunters that are interested, just reply to this message.
Next stop is the famous Cache River and since it covers a pretty large area, I expect to have similar data for Upper and Lower Cache River in a few days.
Best Regards,
Minnetonka Kurt************

I would like to think that message was just a bunch of hot air...A "troll" if you will of by someone looking to stir the pot.

Unfortunately, after seeing "hunters" show up to a local public walk-in area (that averages about 4 ducks/man in Illinois no less!) in wingtips, slacks and a sport jacket, nothing surprises me anymore.

Hell, looks like some are even trying to eradicate the tradition of guidin'.

This post is not dated, however he couldn't have found any "honey holes" as there were no ducks to lead to the honey this year.

Finding a hole is one thing but getting to it at different water levels is another. Hoefully this guy will have the boat ramp marked as well, it's harder to find it than a duck hole at Black Swamp. He posted Black River but then mentioned the Cache, so whatever.

Having said that, I don't doubt someone would pay for it.

You never know.

Might be a tree-hugger trying to start trouble using the same hunters they are fighting.

Could be a fella that was treated to an early morning Welcome Wagon, local Arkansas style.

Maybe a greenhorn that just loves duckin' and duck hunters.......but I doubt it.

Even if I had a gps, I don't think I would use those cordinates. Liable to be pretty crowed in there.

..like buying fake scalper tickets, you show up at the game with a hotdog and a coke only to find three other people trying to sit in your seat with your same ticket.

sucks, don't it....

I just don't know how those numbers would be any good both those rivers still have way above normal water levels in them. Next year you go there and realize it's a dry hole..

I had an out-of-stater try to sell me
some cordinates for DNF.He did not know
I have been hunting DNF for 20 years.

It is illegel to acept money for guiding
on DNF. Seems to me it should be illegel
to sell cordinates to public holes.

I think it's sad when folks find a way to exploit something like this. But really, what they're targeting is folks that haven't learned that hunting spots are 'hot' ONLY when the ducks are in'em.

Anybody that's duck hunted (in the true sense), knows that changing conditions influences where the ducks go and what they do. You have to know an area pretty well and hunt it every day to 'stay with the birds'. So for some to think it's like finding brem beds, that's pretty naive. 'Ain't nothin' wrong with that.....'gotta learn, somehow. Unfortunately, some o' the best-learned lessons tend to be costly.

I'm not condoning what this fella is doing, but at the same time, I think it's a good lesson for folks that think they're gonna walk into a 'hot spot' with little or no effort expended......'you reap what you sow'.

The saddest thing is.....those areas will be ruined for any 'quality' hunting, until the swarm of joyseekers (come to cash-in on something 'easy'), realize it was all a crock!

Our WMA usage is fine. (so some say)

It's alright to talk about duckholes on the public ground on the web, isn't it? I can talk about whatever I wish, can't I?

Added to GPS Cords, & digital imagery, what I know about the Ms. Delta would sell like hotcakes. Thought of it 5 years ago, wouldn't dream of doing it.

However that is not the case with a large segment of America, and when this starts, you can forget it. I would suggest jumping in on the fray and selling your duckholes before somebody else does, because it won't be worth an alabama melon after it is over anyway.

The only glue for this marriage is the incentive to make money?

I won't need a new watch battery before websites selling these are all over the place, and your public hunting as it is today will no longer exist.

I say enjoy it while you can because all it takes is a good topo map to make a map that would stun an out of state buyer. Video as well.

I am currently working with GIS via mapping software, and I could very easily make a map that would actually have them put the decoys in the exact correct spot for windage and it actually be perfectly correct. Added to GPS cords to get there, well I don't have to tell you do I?

While you are there taking GPS readings, why not shoot 4 digital photos of the place and show them which tree to sit under?

Send the entire package on CD and load it directly to the hard drive, readable by the web browser.

15 memberships $10,000 each first come first serve. Let them all pitch in and buy it because that is what they are going to do anyway. You might as well make them pitch hard for it.

For a man who drives 8 hours one way with 3 friends, has to get here and find a place to hunt successfully, and has only a few days to use when he is here, that is worth it's weight in gold.

Create an "Ask Mr. Cleo Duck" phone line, for $2.00 a call they can listen to duck movement updates with suggestions for where to stay and where to eat built right in.

Add it to a list of every hotel, motel, and cafe and you have money coming from both directions.

And we all think that nobody is going to do this, right? I can't believe they haven't done it already.

You couldn't find a better way to ruin everyones hunting than putting too many people into it, the tree huggers could make money and stop the carnage, I'm surprised they haven't done this yet.

I have this new kind of gum that if you hold your mouth right when you chew I can ALMOST bet you will kill the limit everytime you go duck hunting. This being a new and hot item; get them while they last for only $20.00 per pack.

Yeah but the only "good" thing about that is after these yahoo's drive eight hours one way with three people they arrive at their specific $10,000 coordinates only to find "Bubba" pitching his deke's for a morning of duck huntin' in the hole his daddy showed him 20 years before a GPS was even developed. Man what a pleasant site that would be. I am fortunate enough to hunt private land, but I got alot of respect for the guys who love it enough to brave the crowds and weather conditions to find a spot to hunt every morning. I say leave'em alone!
