you can teach him...may take a little bit more to get the point across, due to being a year old and no training, but the labs can undergo continuous training and learn throughout the younger years.

Whats the dog like? Is he well mannered with good obedience, and likes to play fetch with a ball? Or is simply a wild heathern? Or just been left in a kennel? Have you had him since a pup? Tell us bout dog some. travis

I know of a dog trainer in Aberdeen, MS that has taken a many of year old dogs and done wonders with them. If you would like to know more on him, you could either e-mail me or just post here.

The ability to sit and stay even for a fews seconds is encourageing! Manners are the first thing a dog must be taught. Then after that you can see if he has the instinct to be a retriever. Start slowly with sit, stay, and come to me. Do that over and over. Extend the amount of time he must sit. You must have the patience to do this without loosing your temper. Put him on a treestand platform or a piece of plywood on the ground, get your lawn chair and read the paper. This will take time! If you can't win this battle it may be a lost cause.
