I've got a rice/bean field in Sunflower county that I'm gonna fix next year that has never been hunted. Asked a neighbor guy about it a few weeks ago and he said that I wouldn't have any ducks because new fields seldom have birds. His reasoning was that these birds tend to imprint on the same fields and breaks year after year. What do you think?

Maybe since most of the ducks havent made it here and may not they will have forgotten where they imprinted and decide to sit down on your field. Just a thought. I am just an ameteur from Kemper county though. Don't take my advice seriously.

??I see you are from Louisville. Did you hunt Nania Wayia this year? I just want to find out if anyone killed a good amount down there this year.??? I sure didn't wear them out.

Hotty,I am from Neshoba County and I hunted Nanih Waihya from the Mound Landing.Hunting in that area was very poor to say the least. However,I heard that there was some pretty good hunting on private lands surrounding that area this year.It was just a bad season for me.Crow,I know Chris Crowson in Louisville, went to Vo-Tech with him and he and I are both Volunteer Firefighters. ghh2000, all us Crowson's are related, though some would probably rather not be! I was born in Louisville but moved away many years ago. Mother and Daddy moved back there when he retired. My sister lives in Nanih Waiya. Do you know the King family there in Philidelphia. Used to be the mayor back in the 60's-70's (Neshoba tends to be a place where everybody know everybody else) Knew Hub King at State.

Your neighbor's thoughts have validity unless you already have lots of ducks each normal year imprinted on your area. There is an old saying-" go where the ducks want to be and not where you want them to be". If your area of Sunflower County has ducks in the area in normal years then another food source just helps hold the ducks longer and you should have success. If you are trying to draw ducks to the area just because you have provided a food source then I would recommend finding another prospective area because it just ain't gonna happen.

Hotty, I didn't hunt Naniya Waiya this year or the Pearl River bottom at all and I didn't hear about anybody having any luck there. Crow I know some of both the Crowsons and the Moodys. There are alot of Moodys. I knew Mr. Herris Crowson and his wife Mrs. Ruth, went to church with them until they both passed away recently. Were they some of your folks? There's a Moody guy here that trains labs and works at the bank, big field trial competitor.

Timberjack, Herris was my uncle. My Dad was Darnell (died several years back). I grew up across the pasture from Uncle Herris and Aunt Ruth and was baptised at Evergreen. We lived where the Taylor Gallery is now. Uncle Herris is buried next to my Dad there in the cemetery. My sister is married to Bobby Moody, the state Representative from Winston, Noxubee area. But, don't hold that against me; I'm really a nice guy!

Crow, Moody is a pretty good Rep. From what I know about him he likes to help people as much as possibble.

Greenhead, I heard a couple of guys got caught be the GW big time earlier this year in Nania Wayia. Did you hear that? I hope it was not true, but if you hunt there you know their is one man in green who is tough.

Hotty Totty, you're right! Bobby is one of the good guys; he's been in the family for a long time, and I was just being facetious. He's for the little man all the way, coming from a family who has farmed the same ground there in Winston County for a long time. He also is the hardest working man I've ever been around; he will flat work you into the ground! I've been wanting to hunt the new WMA out there the last couple of years, but I never have hit it right. There used to be a bunch of ducks in the swamp if the weather was right. Any of you down that way ever been to the cave?

Hotty, heard the same rumor and found out it was true.Rather not say who I heard got caught, but they were asking for it.Ask and you shall recieve. You don't go into a WMA and shoot untill after sunset and not expect to get caught.Crow,I've been to the cave a couple times, but it's been a long time.Oh and Hotty,I know most of the wardens. They're all pretty good guys and yes one in paticular is pretty tough.Come to think of it,two of them are pretty tough, but I don't have to worry about them, because I try very hard not to put myself in a situation where I have to worry.

Timber Jack, the post left by Captain Duck was dead on the money. If there are ducks in the general area it should work fine. However, you will not make ducks change their flight patters just cause a new field in an area has food. The one thing that will be difficult is to determine what part of this particular field will be the "honey hole." Hoeny hole = the one area of any particular field that ducks are just naturally drawn too. Good luck, might have to reposition your blind after the first season, but give em hell.
