Guys, I am needing some help. Just found out that I will not be invited back to turkey hunt at my buddies camp in the hills. They claimed that I was putting too much pressure on the birds, kinda hard to figure that since I haven't killed one there in the 5+ years that I've hunted it. Three of the guys started turkey hunting for the first time last season, and they just got tired of me calling birds off of them, I just couldn't get them to come in out of that 60+ yd range. I'm looking for a possible membership opening for turkey hunting or paying guest fees. I'll send out sound files if needed, just to show that I'm not like a party horn with my turkey calls, unlike sometimes with my duck calls. I'm interested in possibly hunting around Starkville, and Counties: Tallahatchie, Carroll, Holmes, Grenada, Leflore, and Montgomery.

I noticed you are from Miss State, MS better known as Starkville. You are within rock throwing distance of three of the finest public turkey hunting areas in the state. John Starr, Noxubee NWR, and Choctaw WMA. I've killed nice birds on two of the three and if you don't mind walking you can find areas that don't get pressured. Best of all, with the exception of Starr, they're free. Good Luck

I've got a buddy that killed 3 toms over at Noxubee last season. I've never hunted public land before, and probably wouldn't like the idea of seeing a hunter sneaking over my left shoulder to shoot at a bird, and possibly myself. But it wouldn't be as bad during the week though. I've got Wednesday's and Friday's off this semester, so I should have some extra hunting time. jestes22@yahoo.com

GH22 if you turkey hunt Noxubee follow the prescribed burns. I can tell you from experience those birds are pressured hard and usually dont just gobble their heads off. But be patient and they will come. You may not know it but they will surprise you.

Ever seen a wil white turkey. I have seen a white hen with a group of about a dozen birds. All hens. I have seen them twice a day from the same deer stand for the last 14 days of the deer season. Hen is not an albino. I will be waiting on them come the spring gobbler season.

My brother and I have discovered a great way to hunt public land for turkeys. Get a mountain bike and a map of the Area. Find the roads that do not allow any motorized vehicles and take off. Ride down that road for 10 minutes and you're in practically virgin territory. With the bikes you can cover a lot of ground so you'll be able to work birds nearly every time you go. Hope it helps.
