one box limit- 25 shell limit
How would ya'll feel if Mississippi started to enforce a one box of shells per person limit? I personally think this is more that enough even taking into consideration that you might have to do some follow up shooting even after they have hit the water.

I agree that 25 shells is more than enough. But I don't beleive putting a limit on the amount of shells you can carry will do much. I have been on very few hunts (even very good ones) where me or my hunting partners have shot over 25 times a piece.
I think putting the limit on shells would just give waterfowlers one more thing to worry about when checking themselves to see if they are legal.
Good idea Cookmducks, I just don't think it will do much.

I think it would be fine, after all they enforce 15 shell limits in certain WMA's. I saw 5 guys burn a FLAT (10 boxes) of shells skybusting one morning, and it still freaks me out.

Yeah, let's think of some more rules!! I already need to have a personal assistant to help me remember everything now.

Any duck hunter worthy of being out there should be able to take a limit of 6 birds with 25 shells or less. If he cannot, he should focus more on calling, location and camouflage, less on skybusting and super-magnum loads, and also make frequent visits to the practice range. I shoot nothing but 2 3/4" #4 steel and have absolutely no problem taking limits whenever we have ducks. In my opinion, the hunt is alot more thrilling when you're looking at 100 mallards at 10 yards than it is by wing-breaking a black dot so far away that you can't tell what sort of duck you shot at. I have never hunted an area with a limit on the number of shells allowed, but if the limit deters skybusters, I would be 100% in favor of it!

I think it would be fine for ducks, but what about when you are doing a duck/goose combo? Then the law would be tought to enforce. To kill 20 snows you are gonna shoot more than a box of shells for sure. Just a thought, I don't wanna go goosin' w/ one box of shells.

When could you legally kill a limit of 20 geese and 6 ducks since the extended season (after duck season) is the only time you can take a 20 bird limit.

Featherduster check the limit on snow. During the reg season its 20 plus 3 canada and 6 ducks you have well over one box of shells.
Or maybe its just me....
********** I am sure everyone only uses one shell to kill a duck or shots a tripple most of the time but hey don't try to add to the bull with new rules. Let's just it go....*********

I don't like more regulations of any kind. These types of regulations stick while other things change thus making it a "stupid" out-dated law.
What if limits change? Perhaps it becomes five wood ducks plus two others? What if a man wants to hunt coots, gallinules, moorhens and those other funky birds? The shell limit will not autmatically change with new bag limits. This only works in the academic sense on the forums.
I've already seen what appeared to be a situation where the cripples were let "go" instead of burning up shells on swatting them down. Don't diver hunters already have a cripple problem with birds diving then popping up for just a second then diving again? Gotta do some shooting to get them.
Just another regulatory hassle. I already hunt places with a varying shell limits from place to place and like go24 posted, it gets quite complicated, often from just a logistical standpoint of "What's possibly in the boat?"
I hate skybusters but if regulations must change then I'd push for consistency. Twenty-five shells everywhere, (not 15 here, 20 there and 30 some other places).

Hambone I agree, I shoot 3" #4's 12 ga. and in flooded timber ihave been known to shoot 2 3/4 20 ga. I have never had a problem hitting the ducks I shoot at, It seems to me that if I could utilize my patience dove hunting as I do duck hunting I would increase my percentage 100%. I think all this rigamore about 10 ga 3 1/2 is soley for the unsecure individuals or the ones who's main goal is "out doing the Jones" if you know what I mean.
I truley feel that limiting the number of shells would lower the overall number of ducks wounded and lost and increase the overall number of ducks in the freezer for everybody.

Welp, 25 shells might be the limit, but odds are, the folks you talking about, would only be toting 25 out. If you shoot 80 yards high on a wma, odds are you aint above leaving a box or 2 of shells on a stump to keep from getting caught getting them out. Next thing you know, they checking folks going in...
You know, I often carry a shell belt of goose loads, a shell belt of duck loads, and a box of 6's to shoot snipe with my 20 gauge, or to shoot marks for my dog when we get through hunting. Or if it aint a snipe type gig, I got 2 12 gagues in the blind. Can't tell you how many times that second gun has put a cripple down, often times not mine. I'm the one that has cripple duty, as its my dog and nobody is gonna shoot on the water while my dog is working. So LOT'S of times I shoot more than a box of shells on a hunt. I like to hear things go boom. Hell, I had a hunt this year I shot a box of shells at blackbirds. Still don't make me no skybuster. Dem other guys in ear shot that kept sitting cause I was shooting every day from 830 till 930, then going home, they might not care for it. But if they'd ever stopped and asked, Id told em, aint no ducks, go home.
My only point is, making laws to regulate ethics is tough. Sometimes the end result aint whut you expected. travis
