I m thinking about getting another boat and was wondering about a 40-50 horse jet outboard on a LOWE 16 ft tunnel boat. Anyone have any experience with this type setup?

I dont think i would use a jet in this part of the country... you'll get too much debris and have to clean it more than normal. If your in a lake and not in shallow water, it may be ok.

How do those things go in reverse?

It really doesn't have a transmission. When you shift the lever into reverse, a metal plate drops down in place perpendicular to the jet exhaust port outlet, deflecting the thrust backwards. It's crude, but it works. I agree with the above posts, you don't want one of those engines. Besides, the top speed is not quite as fast as a comparable propeller driven outboard motor.
