School-Record, SEC-Leading 17 Diamond Dogs Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- A school-record and an SEC baseball-best 17 members of Mississippi State's 2005 edition have earned SEC Academic Honor Roll designation. It's the third consecutive year that the Diamond Dogs have registered record-setting academic all-conference totals.
Senior pitcher Saunders Ramsey of Starkville, Miss., a two-time SEC Good Works Team selection, and team co-captain in 2005, earned his third consecutive academic all-conference honor.

The listing does not include the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, which will be compiled and announced by the Southeastern Conference in July. The honor roll is based on grades from the 2004 summer, 2004 fall and 2005 spring semesters.

MSU's 2005 SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll selections, listed alphabetically by class, include:

FRESHMEN: RHP-Jeremiah Boling (Silver Creek, Ga.), SS-Bunky Kateon (Mobile, Ala.), 1B-Alex McIntosh (Brandon, Miss.), P-Justin Pigott (Picayune, Miss.), 3B/SS-Michael Rutledge (Cullman, Ala.);

SOPHOMORES: 3B/C-Ben Grisham (Senatobia, Miss.), P-Josh Johnson (Caledonia, Miss.), 2B-Jeffrey Rea (Nettleton, Miss.), P-Andy Wilson (Columbus, Ga.);

JUNIORS: OF-Jeff Butts (Fort Worth, Texas), C-Wyn Digs (Lexington, Miss.), P-Brooks Dunn (Birmingham, Ala.), 1B-Brad Jones (Orlando, Fla.), OF-Matt Richardson (Lawrenceburg, Ky.);

SENIORS: P-Eric Ebers (Steeleville, Ill.), P-Saunders Ramsey (Starkville, Miss.), 2B/SS-Daniel Tackett (Terry, Miss.).

After Mississippi State's 17, South Carolina placed 16, Louisiana State 12, Florida and Vanderbilt 11 each, Alabama and Arkansas nine each, Georgia, Kentucky and Mississippi eight each, Tennessee seven and Auburn five.

Since the SEC first honored its scholar-athletes with Academic All-SEC designation in 1971, Mississippi State baseball players have received academic all-conference or honor roll status 202 times. Vanderbilt is second on the SEC's all-time baseball academic honors list with 150.
