I respect your opinion. But, this post was made just in case someone is wanting to change careers. There are always posts where someone is looking for another job and I thought maybe this post would help someone who is looking to make a career change whether by their own choice or because of other reasons!

Well, everybody likes lower prices and a great selection, but it's just a shame it's getting so tough for the specialty shops to compete with high-volumn conglomerants. I just like the way it was in the 60' at places like E&M Sports or Miller's House of Sports in Lake Charles, or Rex's Sporting goods in Natchez.....or Sharp's in Columbus.....and even up until the time Mack's moved from the old hardware store downtown, to where they are, now. You go in, get a pop out o' the ice box, grab a bag o' peanuts, pull up a chair, keep your mouth shut and listen to the older guys tell stories about the 'good ole days'. There wasn't so much competition then, and if you wanted shells, you got a lot more than you paid for, just in the experience of going to such a gathering place.
Stores like Bass Pro don't give a rat's butt about hunting heritage or tradition......it's all about the gravy train......let's sell these idiots what they want.......they'll damn-near buy anything......and we'll just create a place to have a 'frenzy'........calll it a 'sportsman's festival' or something like that.
What about a place with nostalgia and a connection to the past.....something with a little history (besides their track record on Wall Street).......a tie to the guys that came before us.
Yeah, I like competitve prices, but I hate the typical discount stores because the average idiot gets in such a buying stupor that it's all about 'stuff' instead of 'know-how'. I'd still buy my 'supplies' at Miller's (if they were still open) because that's where I bought my first pair o' boots, or my first dozen G&H shell decoys......where a box of Super-X papers or a box of Peter's Hi-Velocity Magnum 6's cost $3.25 a box.....where they sold the Faulk's snow goose calls that were revolutionary because half of it was space-aged plastic. The place where I got my first baseball glove.......and shoulder pads. How 'bout 'Smokie's Sporting goods in Hattiesburg? I bought anything from little league uniforms to frog gigs in there........'had a rack fulla Browning superposed shotguns, A-5's, and 22 automatic rifles that load through the buttstock.........that was a special place.............GONE!
So, NO........I like things the way they were before......even if it cost a little more......you get what you pay for.

Anatidae,
You are preaching to the choir with me! I posted this for Jobs not where to shop! I was brought up in Yazoo City at the Old Spell's store downtown, I still buy my Jigs to fish with @ Slaters in Indianola, my father orders everything else I need as he is a gun dealer and can get just about anything I need. This post was made for guys unhappy with their current jobs or are looking for jobs.

That wasn't what your fisrt response to my post said......before you edited it.
I responded specifically to your question in that post.....before you edited it. You asked a question....I answered it.
I think it was something like....."I take it you don't like competition and discount houses". There's no mention any service you were providing to those interested in seeking employment.

Well, you're one of just a few who would admit it...........Thanks! But yes, we're getting old......and old folks just are slow to 'change'.
I use stuff that worked 40 years ago.....and it STILL works........so, I don't need to rush out and buy one of every color 'call muff' , just 'cause they're 'new', and I don't have any........'don't NEED'um!.......'Don't WANT'um!........'wouldn't be caught DEAD with'um hanging around my neck! 'Sure-fire way to identify a 'Topwater' in my book.....but that's just me. Benny and Dan and a whole lot more folks on here are the same way about 'stuff'..................we bought everything we needed years ago......all we buy is ammo, now.

Anatidae,
You are right! I edited my post. I wrote one thing and thought about it and changed it! I said that you must not like competetion. I myself do not like the big discout houses. But, that is not the reason I made this post.
