Tournament Baseball
I know this is not the sports forum, but I have seen some of you talk about coaching baseball so I thought I would see if any of you or your children are involved in playing tournament baseball on weekends. My son is 11 and we play at Gulfport and may play in Hattiesburg and South Haven soon. I heard the facility at Southhaven is great. I know the one in Gulfport is. We play USSSA, Super Series etc. I was just curious.
I have a 13 yr. old playing USSSA too. Did the Gulfport thing this past weekend and will be there week-end after next. Then Hattiesburg for the next three and Southaven in July. Loads of fun, huh? I'm in Petal and our team is the Petal Panthers. What team is yours? Maybe we'll see each other.

Yes the fields and for parents the rest rooms are top of the line. You'll enjoy the park plenty of places close to eat etc.

Feather,
Our team is the Red Stick Braves. We played very poorly and ran into a buzz saw this weekend. I started to post up and see if anyone was going to be there, but I didn't. It would have been nice to meet you and youir son. If you play any tournaments in La. PM me and let me know and I will do the same for you. You're right, it is a load of fun. I wish we had this opportunity when Iwas coming up. Good luck the rest of the season.

I have a 10 yr old who is playing his second year of USSSA tourney baseball. Its costing us a little more, but its worth every penny as long as he wants to keep doing it. USSSA is exploding in MS. You can see why when you go and watch "city league" games in your home town. Its real baseball and the kids enjoy its faster pace more. I wish all city leagues would adopt the USSSA rules when the kids reach player pitch. It would teach them more and keep their focus better.
Snowden Grove in Southaven is very nice. You should really enjoy it.

My son plays USSSA also, and I can testify it is much better, realistic, than most rec leagues. These kids are playing real baseball, leadoffs, pickoffs, pitching from the streach, etc. In my opinion, which is probably not worth much, they will have an easer time adjusting to highschool ball than a kid that just plays rec ball all the way through. My son is on a 12 year old team in Madison.

My son plays 10 year old ball. He is on a rec team and a tournament team. Our tournament team will not start playing until May. We will obviously be behind some of the other teams that have been playing together since last Fall, but he enjoys playing both rec and tournament. His team will likely go to Southhaven in June or July, I think.

When I was growing up it was pretty much Dixie Youth or nothing. Our names were drawn out of a hat and on a different team each year and played a whopping 15 games per year. Now they stay on the same team year after year starting in Jan. and ending in July playing about 40-50 games. Then fall ball starts in Aug. and runs through Oct. and play another 25 or so. I forbid him to play basketball because you know what season that is. And he likes to hunt too so I'm lucky for that.

any of you sending your kids to the Shaw Round Robin Tournament?? Suppose to be excellent facilities and one of the largest tournaments in the state... We finished 3rd out of 35 teams... thought that was pretty good. maybe we can get Benny to throw out the first pitch !!
