Well!...I'll be an SOB!

Same thing happened to us this morning. 'Got 2 'Woodies' early.......sat there til 8:15 without seein' another duck, so we broke-down the blind. As I finished zippin' my fly, my wife says, "Lookie there!" She was pointin' at a pair of fatheads that just buzzed us, lookin' for a spot to land. We squatted down and watched. Of course guns were sacked and calls were in my blind back (something I rarely do). They made a wide pass and came back straight-in, then veared-off 'bout 50yds out and pitched-in the next cove (80yds away). I'd like to think I could've easily talked those birds in.....sun was at our backs and they were lookin', hard! 'Pretty good indication of how our luck has run, this season. it is a pisser!

I did leave out one other piece of info...

The reason I was packin up leaving was that there was as AgCat spraying the timber farm next to my lake!

What is the limit on Yellow AgCats? it was sure pretty, I would have had it mounted!

...haveing endured what can only be described as a pathetic season do far...

about 0900 yesterday I am standing in my blind, straightening up for next outing, wraping the cord on some deks. Looking toeards the northwest for any sign of some mallards. about that time I look back towards the east, 3 are cupping and trying to land, they saw me turn, and boom! they were gone before I could reach my gun! I was standing straight up in the blind, and made no call towards them!

Well, there is always next time, atleast I know they are out there!

the best duck call in the world is a boat paddle beatin the bottom of the boat in open water....

or the sound or urine splashing in the water

or the sound of a can of viennas opening

or the smoke off a hot cup of coffee floatin in the air

works every time......

been there, done that.....

Now judge you know you left out the sound and rattle of dekes going in the bag. The best way too tell if you have made a good decision too leave is not having ducks buzz you while rolling up dekes...... correct????

FROM THE JOURNAL;
I was hunting during christmas break and my hunting buddy Terry told me to get ready, I of course grabbed my gun and put my head down, Terry stood up and started to utilize the public facilities of the front of the boat, before he finished a greenhead dropped in and I collected it as a part of the days bag. Needelss to say every time Terry had to pee, I grabbed my gun, unfortuantly, it only happened that one time.

We have found that some ducks, particularly shovelers and gadwalls, are unable to resist the sound of a running Go-Devil. Sometimes when they seem unable to commit to a landing, I just reach back and hit the ignition key to clinch the deal. Don't try it on mallards, though...
