I found these two sites that deal with feeding waterfowl. The first one has to do with setting up feeding areas in Canada to draw them away from farmers fields. The second one has to do with feeding them in Iowa.

Feeding waterfowl
I couldn't get the first site to open.
The second one I did look at -
The feds normally flood wetland food plots up and down the flyways to provide areas for waterfowl to recoup and rest during the migration, both in the fall as well as the spring if possible. This is no different than what many clubs, State DNR's and leases do.
So now my question, what is your point?

A big discussion has derived from people blaming du and the feds for the bad season. In short they are blaming the bad season on the feds for feeding the ducks. Check out duckcentral.com, and you will see what i'm talking about. I have been at this for years, and i think it is just a fluke season. Many like to point fingers when a season goes bad. The finger pointing i've seen is that the feeding is holding the migration. I was just posting this because people say they want proof the feds are feeding them so they can take action. The first URL is to a site from Canada explaining how they set up feeding ponds pumped with grain etc. to keep ducks and geese of farmers fields.

Its my understanding that the yankees have waged a campaign to keep the ducks up north as long as possible, so as to prevent us from kiling them. This means they are pouring the feed into the refuges and 2 to 3 times the normal rate.
They have become especially aggressive in these campaigns because of all the hoopla about MS hunting after Jan 15 - the date that all yankees think that mallards pair for the year and that no hen whose mate is shot after Jan 15 will find a new boyfriend. I have to call BS on them yankees.

I will make the same offer here as I have on this and other forums -
I invite ANYONE to visit me ANYTIME of the year and we will visit the Fed and State Refuges and Management Areas all through Central Illinois. You won't find anyone feeding waterfowl here. You will be required to bring a gun or fishin rod (Depending on what is in season) so we can do something constructive after driving all over!

I guess those same "yankees" have never seen a mallard gang-bang. I know on the lake that I live on I watch the ducks mate during the season, and several males take turns with one suzie, chasing her around, sometimes holding her head under water for one another. Kinda like a biker party.
Just another example of Yankee trickery.

My cousin just got back from a business trip in Wisconsin. He said there were ducks everywhere up there. He said the weather was about the same as here, and there was no reason for the ducks to go anywhere. I don't know, but sounds like the weather isn't going to cooperate enough to get the ducks here before the end of January. At least the number of ducks that we need. Combined with the abundant amount of water, it just makes for a hard year of hunting.
