I have mixed feelings about it.
To the extent hunting the hippo or cape buffalo, etc is legal, then I have no problem with him harvesting this animal, assuming the animal does not go to waste -- and it is eaten by someone. No different than one of us shooting a deer ---such is legal, regardless of your motivation ---trophy or food or both--- so long as no wanton waste.
I also do not have a problem with his hunting method ----on the ground, facing the animal, giving the animal a chance to flee or fight. And if it chooses to fight and charges, he stands his ground and shoots it before it kills or injures him. Pretty gutsy way to hunt, IMO ----perhaps a bit crazy. Those looked like some hungry, hungry hippos.
Now, IF he does in fact wound the animal first, from a safe distance, and then starts this routine of facing the animal, etc., I think that such is unethical in the sense that he is not making as clean and humane a kill as possible. To the contrary, he is intentionally letting the animal suffer unnecesarily. Further, the animal could flee and later die a slow death from the initial purposeful non-fatal wound. I cannot tell from the video whether he engages in such or not. So, I am using this scenario as a hypothetical and not passing judgement on the man without the true facts.

I don't have a problem with the method per se...however, I think it shows a lack of respect for these creatures. These are among the most powerful animals on the planet and to walk up to them and dare them to charge is foolish and seems to be at odds with how I feel about game creatures. I've always felt and was brought up to feel that quarry should be treated with respect and revered, both before and after the kill. There is no reverence or respect in that video....

Nice rifle!
Looks like a Beretta 455SO?.......with the engraving and inlays........likely in excess of $60M

since the EELL runs around $45M. Either 470 or 600 Nitro.
That would make a lot of toothpicks if he ever misses one of those bad boys.........(a lot of EXPENSIVE toothpicks)

Professional hunters must make perty-good money......must get a lot in 'hazard' pay.
